I'm about to get my first complimentary 5k service the Lexus dealer and noticed that they are not changing oil at 5k.
Is this normal?

Lexus engineers, while obviously not perfect, are pretty good. With full synthetic oil, I feel pretty certain you are good to 10K. But now I will likely go every 5k as well, just for tire rotation.

My strategy is to change the oil at the 1K mark (already done) and have 5k OCI. I'll have to see how much the car is driven because it isn't a DD and the 6 month mark and 1 year mark may be low mileage.

For example, we've owned our GX since early April and have driven it 1k miles as of this writing.

It's not the base oil, it's the additive package that won't last 10k. Do what you want but I suggest reading the recommendations for this vehicle in other countries where the EPA is not involved.

I wonder if Lexus has a maintenance package tom purchase.
I know BMW has maintenance plan to buy yearly, then you have unlimited amount oil change. I have a friend with X7 and he is changing oil every 2000 miles.
Called to dealer and it is 200$ plus tax to change oil

When I took my 2023 Toyota 4Runner Limited in for it's 5000 mile service the advisor allowed me to use the 10K mile oil change at that time.
Is Lexus as flexible as that

Send samples to blackstone as well. With some driving styles and good quality oil, I started to get the green light to extend my oil intervals with my previous Lexus. Still running great at 250k miles. Started using the new valvoline restore and protect.

I change my oil at shorter intervals that Lexus recommends. Every 3 -5k.

Fun fact 1: If all you're doing is an oil change you can goto a Toyota dealership and get your oil changed for a bit less.

An oil change at my local Toyota dealership is $80 vs. $130 at Lexus. Lexus does wash it though which is nice. Their systems are linked so the Lexus dealership can see all the Toyota dealership oil changes.

Fun fact 2: My service writer at Lexus told me (and I totally believe this to be true with most manufacturers), that the 12 month / 10k mile oil change interval is really about lower cost of ownership than what's best for the engine. While modern oil is better, it still gets dirty and with the GX having a turbos, they'll last longer if you keep fresh oil in them.

Having said all this, if you're only going to keep your GX for 3 - 5 years like most people, then once per year / 10k intervals are fine.
