Due to several cracks, we just recently had our windshield replaced with OEM/Lexus glass. The rubber seal around the windshield is folded under in spots (on the top edge) and the company we used to install it said it’s due to the manufacturing of the windshield and the seal that came with it instead of an install issue. The original windshield did not have this issue, so just wondering if anyone else had their’s replaced with OEM glass and could send a picture of the seal on the top edge of the windshield so we could compare?

I had an couple chips, but opted for chip repair due to the fact that true OEM windshields are not available and on backorder. They found an aftermarket, but not OEM. I tried several Lexus dealerships and got the same message from everyone...

I just recently had a tennis ball size Rock impact repaired today. I posted about it on Facebook and received more than one reply saying that they ordered a windshield and we're told it was back ordered for months and received one within weeks. My fix is more of a Band-Aid than an actual fix and I fully expect it to continue cracking as soon as I get some kind of temperature fluctuation. I've already hit up the dealer and they are going to bring one in for me and let me know when it arrives.

Less than a month between ordering a OEM windshield for my GX and its arrival at the glass shop. So at least in some regions, availability seems to be better.

Well.... my dealer said they didn't have any and then last week had two. I was fortunate enough to get one of them....

No issue on the installation of the new OEM windshield; works as well as the former, minus the crack and tint.

Just replaced my windshield. WOW! $2,250!!! It took 4 weeks to get the glass, which is better than the two months originally quoted. I have a Bronco weekend driver. The rake on the windshield is worse, but the glass is apparently much better. Lexus needs to get its act together in regards to the quality of the glass they are using. It’s beyond poor.

I just had my 3rd rock chip "repaired" in 9 months of ownership. I think I've had 3 rock chips total in my previous 40+ years of vehicle ownership. The glass on the 550 totally sucks and/or the design of the vehicle exacerbates the problem. $2,250 for a new windshield, though...WOW is right! Curious why didn't you go through insurance?

I had my windshield replaced a little over a month ago. I waited nearly a year for a windshield to become available. Cost me $1908 and I was reimbursed by my insurance company. I got a new crack in it about 2 weeks ago during a rare hailstorm here in Scottsdale!

For this very reason I had the window covered in PPF. I do not want to deal with half assed repairs.
RobGX,
I’m very interested in your experience with this. Any lessons learned with this? Did your installer recommend/ use a particular type, brand of PPF? Are you still using the OE wiper blade? How is your driving at night, and/or in the rain?
TIA!

I had ppf installed on mine as well. It’s apparently hard to install - took it back to the shop twice due to issues with install. First time it was a scratch in the film, second time was a crease that didn’t dry properly. The shop brought their best installer in for the third try and he did an excellent job.

There is a special ppf product for windshields, I think it’s similar to the regular product, just a bit thicker. Still using OE wiper blade and night/rain driving is perfectly fine. My shop put a ceramic boost on the film immediately after install so I think the rain performance is actually improved.

Highly recommend doing it, but make sure you find an experienced installer that is willing to stand behind their work. The first two installers did a flawless job on my tint work but couldn’t get the windshield right.

I paid $525 for the windshield ppf.

That’s great, almost worth a round-robin to Pittsburgh! 🤣

Seriously, really good info. Just knowing, hearing others have done it is good to know..
I have 2 very minor hits on mine; one an extremely small starburst..now repaired. The other a weird 3/4 in long grazing, glancing type scratch. Just noticed it a few days ago. Don’t know how much longer my luck will hold out…I’d rather pay $500+ now vs. issues later with supply chain, insurance, etc.
I’ll start making some calls here in Colorado.

Thanks again,
DJ

Just get Xpel windshield protection film, it was $500. Looks like a cell phone screen protector, not sure how much of a hit it will take, but looks stout to me. Go to a reputable installer. You get what you pay for. In this pic you can see the edge, its fairly thick and hard, cannot hurt!

* I would not accept that.
** Doesn't surprise me that they said that. Blame someone else. I would also not accept that.
