First Oil Change at 5k instead of 10k (1 Viewer)

Has anyone asked their dealer to do the first oil change at 5k instead of the recommended 10k? I have always understood that on a new engine doing an earlier change is a good idea as the newness and wear of the engine components will create more contamination initially. Just seem to be common sense to me to do the first one earlier but maybe I am missing something.

I also thought that the fee 5k check up would include oil change. It did not and they would not do it free inplace of the 10k service that does include oil. I changed myself at 5k, dealer did 10k. I just brought in and was going to have oil changed at 15k while camera update was being done so it would be on the books. They said the next oil was not due till 20k. So I did the 15k at home and may have them do the official at 20 later just in case any recall extends to my build which was only a few weeks beyond the cut off.

I just go by the OEM recommendation, never let me down. It's not 1980 with Dad washing the car with Dawn who thought it was the best car soap! Lol.

I paid my dealer to do oil changes at 1000 miles and at 5000 miles and will do them every 5000 miles from this point forward. The dealer will do my next oil change at 10,000 miles at no additional charge per the maintenance agreement.

I just choose to take this more conservative approach to oil change intervals as a relatively inexpensive insurance policy against premature engine wear.

As above, I paid for my first oil change at 1000 miles. The owner's manual states 600 miles is engine break-in, so I figured it was a good idea. The dealer covered my 1 of 2 complimentary at 5000 miles. I plan on doing subsequent changes every 5k miles.

Hey, I resemble that statement!...😂 I used dish soap to wash my first truck all the time. 18 years old with a brand new 1989 Ford Ranger. It is amazing how little young people know what they are doing and still do it because they saw someone else do it. I guess the same can be said for older people too.

First change at 1000 and every 5000 there after. I pay the dealer for the 5, 15 and will at 25k. I have built more engines in the last 50 years I can count and you are foolish to not change at 800-1000 miles initially. Always send oil off for analysis especially with this twin turbo motor and its early problems with debris.

Did my 1st at 1K and 5K. Dealer did the "free" 10K and I just did the 15K.

One of the cleanest oil changes with the right tools. Just wish the skid plate had a smaller window to easily access the drain and filter so it doesn't require complete removal.

I did my first oil change at 1,000 miles and will do the 2nd at 5,000 miles. I think 10,000 is way too long, especially for the first oil change and considering the chatter about the engine failures.

First oil service is the most important one! 5k at a maximum, a lot of times 1k or 2.5k. We used to call it the "break in" service back in the old BMW M car days. Gotta get all those little metal shavings and so on out of there. I think the early 2024 models were having engine issues due to stuff being in there too long from manufacturing and break in, no?

Did my first one at 5k. Dealer tried to discourage me even though I insisted and paid out of pocket to get it done. Toyota dealer was more willing so went there and saved $100 over going to Lexus

My 2 cents...
If your vehicle is leased, follow the owner's manual; if you purchased it, consider more frequent engine maintenance.

You can follow the owner's manual and listen to the dealer...Or change the engine oil and filter more often.
The V35A engine should have regular maintenance every 3,500-5,000 miles, which is not excessive.
Following the 10,000-mile engine oil change and not checking the oil level regularly is asking for trouble.

Check the engine oil level regularly and change the oil and filter more often.
A break-in engine oil filter change should be done at about 1,000 miles. Thereafter, every 3,500 miles.

The GX 550 V35A engine has known wear-and-tear issues with the engine's main bearings.
The twin turbochargers generate significant heat in the engine oil, contributing to its breakdown.
You decide what's best for you.
Good luck.

I had my dealer perform the first oil & filter change at 2K and I am about to schedule for my 5K. I plan on routine 5K intervals

Where would you send off your oil sample for analysis?
