I was told by a mechanic that the front air dams on the GX550 are not only for improved gas mileage but also help with engine cooling. Has anyone else heard that the front air dams help with cooling? I'd like to remove them but am now a little cautious and moving forward. Thanks!

not an engineer, but I am took them off and and have not thought of them ever since. I can see a tiny, tiny bit of aerodynamics, but any engine cooling would have also been minimal based on it's flat design. People have done a lot more when adding bumpers with no ill effect.

At least we didn't get the huge chin spoiler on the Tacoma's and 4Runners.

Yeah, looking at aftermarket bumpers, they remove a lot more material and I've yet to hear of ill effects. I questioned it because he was so confident in stating a reduction in cooling. Thanks for the input!!!
