Hi, I’m a new GX 550 owner and greenhorn off-road with too much money and took little time (aka foolish lamer).

My problem is: I need to replace my OEM sliders with a proper step slider.

One problem I have is how to rapidly educate myself on product quality (brands, function, style, fit, build, compatibility, etc.).

Example: Wescott Designs Lexus GX 550 Rock Sliders 2024-2026 Lexus GX 550 Rock Sliders by Westcott Designs

Options:
KickoutKickout
NO Kickout
MaterialHREW
DOM
Welding ProcessMIG
TIG
Degree of Angle0 Degrees
20 Degrees

Without Top Plates
ColorBlack
Raw
Hardware KitPre-tapped holes
Not pre-tapped

Another brand I’ve been told to checkout is Slee.

My challenge is: as an example, Wescott has so many options to choose from, how do I know what I need or want?

Said another way? Where or how do I learn about all of these details so I can make smart choices and buildout a cohesive design for my rig?

Teach me, sensei! 🙂

Try White Knuckle Sliders as well. I have had these on my last 4 vehicles and beat them to death. They even survived a major accident in my Land Cruiser. They are super stout and super easy install. Serve well as both robust slider to protect the rockers and also a very “Wife Approved” step! I do not like the tops they offer with giant holes in them, but they also offer other options which you have to call them about before placing your order online. It’s a diamondplate top.

10% off for Black Friday sale right now.

Westcott is having a 20% off sale through Monday.

I have the Westcott basic sliders - flat (zero degree), no kickout, cheapest options for tubing and welding, with the top plates. I mainly wanted these to serve as a good step for my kids, wife, mother, and me. But I also actually take this truck off-road and I want the protection for the door sills too. I researched the tubing material and welding process and these sliders are plenty strong. If you're building a rig to bounce around in boulder fields, then maybe you'd want the more expensive tubing and welding.

What hardware kit do you recommend?

Thanks for your response - this is exactly my use case for the step (wife, elderly mom, kids, etc.) and sliders (light/medium off-road). Since our house is down to just one vehicle (the new GX 550) the intent and goals are:
  • grocery getter
  • road trips
  • off-road trails/off-grid camping
  • teardrop camper tug

Any idea how I can tell if my 2025 GX 550 is pre-tapped or not for these Wescott rock sliders?

I have an Overtrail that came with the Lexus rock rails and everything was pre-drilled and tapped and the Westcott sliders came with all the hardwear.

I'd call Westcott, give them your model, and ask what you need!

That’s my plan - I want to go sit down with them and map out some aftermarket stuff.

I was hoping to find a way to buy and install them myself.

I’m also interested in their roof rack and a bumper swap for more clearance and a winch.
