Hi Everyone, I'm new to the forum::

After 17 months passively waiting, I secured my preferred spec - a 2025 OT+ in Atomic Silver, Chateau interior , rock rails HUD and a few other options, (NO roof rack thank you very much), built July 30th, on a boat on August 8th. Should see the new rig early September is my guess. I live in the Denver Metro area.

Looking forward to mods shortly thereafter (interior gear first) and camping RTT style with my 9 year old son and joining some groups to do the best trails around my neck of the woods (nothing too crazy). I'll be reading up on all the threads in this forum in the coming month to get acclimated to the good, the bad and the ugly.

p.s. have also watched probably every YouTube on the GX550 to date. lol.

That is a long wait. But good things take time, I suppose. My experience was a bit different but also paid more. Time or money and hopefully not both, right? lol

Have you decided on what interior mods you're going with?

Welcome to the club!

The only real negative I've found after a bit over a year and 19,000 miles is the small fuel tank, and then also the poor fuel mileage. I didn't think this was going to be a 20+ mpg vehicle going into it, but I was hoping to average more like 16 or 17 instead of 14. Oh well, not that big of a deal. I was getting 14 in my last V8 truck and 11 in the V8 truck before that. What's worse about the GX is the tiny fuel tank at 21 gallons and the truck starts to panic if you have the nerve to use 18 or more gallons. These things should have had at least 24-25 gallon tanks and 30 would have been ideal. Still waiting on Long Range America to hook us all up.

Exactly, not both. I'm paying 1k under msrp (no markups) with the military discount they are offering and I locked it in. Just starting to decide how I want to set up a fridge/food/cooking drawer system and storage in the back for camping - some options are quite expensive- open to suggestions.

I am definitely not looking forward to a lower range and less MPG. I have a v8 twin-turbo (x5 m60i) currently and it even manages 18-19 (driven with "Spirit"), higher if I cruise in eco. I am ready for the poor MPG, hopefully no brake sounds/issues, hood fluttering (minor is fine) and the ML system is better than what everyone is saying. I recently saw a post where someone is getting a new amp to fix the quality of the sound?

Anyhow. Other than that, it sounds super solid and fun - I like a truck-ish ride, not comparing to the BMW in any way - want a change.

Thank you for your service and hopefully, you get it sooner than later.

For the drawer system, still researching but I am leaning towards ADGU's system. Certainly one of the more expensive (if not the most) but it goes with the whole dream vehicle vibe of go big or go home....

(y) ADGU is my first choice! Just not sure I need the the very best for my more limited use (that might change down the road). I will be a weekend warrior mostly.

Agreed. I haven't driven mine much and I'm already having range anxiety. Already thinking of carry 2 5-gallon jerry cans temporarily until someone comes up with the big tank mod...

yeah, my usage level will be similar (in all honesty, likely even less) and open to more inexpensive options always. Please keep me posted if you run across something. DItto for me. Thanks.

My GX is at the railhead in Denver! One quick truck ride away, hopefully will be posting pictures by Monday-Tuesday!

Went to the overland expo. Sherpa rack being installed next week. Already waiting in the garage : 23zero Horizon H3 Tent, 5 arm Peregrin Pro Awning w/ full Awning walls, Rask shower enclosure and a ton of gear from 1000w power to ICECO fridge to cooking stuff. Can't wait!!!

Are you concerned with the rear hatch opening getting in the way? Also, I want a 270 awning with full back/hatch area coverage. Only one or 2 does this but also still concerned with hatch opening clearance...

Nope. From my in-person with 23zero at the expo, he had a 5-arm( instead of six ) set up and it allows a full opening of the tailgate. There's also a video demonstrating on a 4Runner , which is worse than the GX with its wider opening (due to the tail lights part of the hatch), and it clears fine with great coverage. At least that's my understanding.

I love the built-in deployable poles and lights and ability of having large tent walls.

I was more alluding to full rear area coverage. See my markup of the Perigrine Pro below in red....

Also still concerned with the full hatch opening and hitting the arms of the awning. I was measuring the height of the opened hatch and you would have to mount the awning close to 1 foot from top of GX roof to lowest part of the awning while closed.

This one talks about features he wants on an awning. at 4:26 mark, he talks about a squared off rear coverage. He actually names four 270 awning brands (Destination 4WD 270 Awning in the video above would be the 5th)
that has full back coverage

Great info! It appears you’ve done far more research than me ,even though I thought I watched enough YouTube!

I guess I’m going to just have to see as the purchase has been made and I might have made the wrong decision?

I appreciate all the in-depth reply. I’ll keep you updated of how it all sorts out. :)
