I just changed the oil on my wife's GX550 at 5,000 miles. There's supposed to be "free" scheduled maintenance at 5,000 and 10,000 miles. I looked at the details and found that the 5,000 scheduled maintenance only includes tire rotation. Everything else is just inspection. I religiously rotate the tires on our cars every 10,000 miles. In my opinion, rotating tires every 5,000 miles isn't significantly beneficial. I asked my wife to call our local dealership to find out if she really needed to bring it in. She called and was told that she did, so she made an appointment. She brought it in today and was told that it would be about an hour and a half. She was expecting for it to take 30 minutes or so and didn't have that much time to wait. So, she asked the customer service representative if she had to get the service done in order to maintain the warranty. The lady said that it would only impact the tire warranty. She then added that there isn't a tire (mileage) warranty. She then said that she guesses not. So, my wife left. Given the conflicting responses from this dealership, I'm not confident in their answers. From a warranty standpoint, does anyone know of a negative consequence to skipping the 5,000 mile dealership service? I'm going to have her bring it in at 10,000 for the "free" oil change and tire rotation.

Just went for my 5k this morning. Free oil and rotation, fluid top off and multiple inspections. Took 35 minutes. Went to the customer lounge and grabbed a snack and watched ESPN.

There is a definite wear difference between front and rear tires so rotation made sense in my case.

Free oil? An oil change isn't included, are you referring to something else?

I don’t understand. My manual shows first service is 10k. My service count down shows about 8k and my mileage is around 2k. Where is the 5k service even shown?

I am back from my 5000 miles service. I reported the shaking and vibration of my GX. My service rep informed me that the mechanic said, “that’s the way the UV was built and it normal.” On the service printout it shows “could not duplicate concern, normal ride for truck with A/T tires.” There was no mentions of the thud that heard from the transmission.

Mines going in tomorrow. The oil was optional and cost extra.

For a 35 minute dealer service I would question if they actually did the oil lol.

They quoted me a 90 minute wait so I’m taking a loaner to work.

I will say that my wife's GX550 Premium picks up more road vibrations than any vehicle that I've had in a long time. My BMW M2 is ultra smooth by comparison. My wife doesn't even notice it, so I let it go. I'm hoping that a new set of tires will help when the time comes.

When we were purchasing my wife's GX550 from an extremely large dealership, I was able to watch oil changes being done because the whole shop had large glass windows so that customers can see what's happening. The oil changes were being done in a drive through setup. They had cars in two lines, one guy working up top and another or two down in each pit. It took them no more than ten minutes to do each car. I'm sure the building and equipment was expensive, but they were raking in the money.

My dealer sends a video inspection while they are performing the service to your phone and both times it showed the car up in the air with the drain plug off and the oil catch set up under the vehicle.

Is that an optical illusion or is there a loose hanging bolt in the first picture?
That's probably one of the skid plate bolts, two of the bolt holes in the skid plate are slotted so that it can be removed without completely removing the bolts. This makes it way easier to remove/install the skid plate.

That’s not true, the dealership has no idea what they’re talking about. I took my GX to dealership yesterday to have a Road forced balance, but the left the old weights on the wheels. I just left Discount tires, I had them remove all the weights on the wheels and do a Road Forced Balance and man let me tell you the vibration are almost gone.

The Road Forced Balance must be done on the Hunter balancer, the only balance machine that can do a Road Force Balance. Make sure they take all of the old weights off the wheels and also ask for the reading on each wheel.

Same here - it's pretty nice to see the truck up in the air and the Technician takes his time walking around, showing the actual tire and brake pad measurements. Then there is no question about them recommending something like changing brake pads. My wife saw me watching the video and she says, "You nerd, how much did you pay them to take a video like that?"

I spoke to soon, the Road Forced Balance did not Solve the vibration problem.

I went back to Discount Tires about an hour ago. They let me know that my tires were out of round. Leading them to suspect that something is going on with the suspension for the tires to be out of round.
