I have an GX 550 OT plus with stock Toyota Open Country tires and I’m wondering how many miles people get on these tires before they’re replaced. I can see that people haven’t had these cars for very long, so maybe nobody has gotten that far and knows an answer.

could be 10k could be 40k...you'll get answers all over the place based on your driving and maintenance habits, but the most common one on this forum will be "I don't know" since they changed out the stock wheels..lol

Agree. My Lexus service guy said some maybe 20k, maybe more, but has seen significant wear at lesser mileage. This is the OEM version of the Open Country AT lll, not the retail version sold at discount Tire and other dealers.

I've got about 11k on mine now, wearing ok. I confess to liking buying new tires and always do it before I really need to, so I'm almost hoping for a sign that I need to change them. I want to stay with 33s, and would be looking around for recommendations.
Best,
Mark

You might already be aware, but the OE tires have less tread depth than the retail versions. I measured 11/32 new, while similar retail market tires are 14/32 or better.

I'm at 22k almost entirely on pavement and I was noticing they are getting worn down quicker than I expected, now I know why. I'll have to replace fairly soon, probably by end of summer. That said I still have tread, I need to measure it to know exactly.

True. Removed my OEM's with 25 miles on them to mount different tires. Tire dealer accidently cut the bead on one of the OEM's so gave me a retail AT lll version as a replacement. When they rolled out the new AT lll I my first question was "what tire is that?" Also, checking the sidewall on these tires I saw OEM Treadwear 360 Retail tire Treadwear 600.

I had no idea. That sucks. The manufacturer can’t save that much money doing that????
My understanding is that it is about initial ride quality, quietness and possibly fuel economy. Less tread and possibly different compound. Great for the test drives and comfort (although not many have a chance for a test drive in the GX550!) but less great for treadlife, as noted by @MtnGX above.

Same stink size. I love them. Had Terra grapplers before and liked them. Great on road. Reviews say not good on snow and ice but that’s not at all a priority for me.

I used reviews online. I forget which site but was detailed and useful.

I'm seriously questioning the Owner's Manual instructions for Tire Rotations. Attached is an image copy of the section of the manual for a Lux/Lux+.

The image shows rotating the full size spare tire in a three-way rotation on the passenger side. For the driver side only the two tires are rotated. This picture shows driver side tires never getting rotated to the passenger side, and vise versa. Won't this cause more wear on the driver side tires, by 33%?

This rotation pattern isn't normal IME. This will be my first Lexus, so maybe I'm missing something.

I'm getting the first 5 tire rotation at Discount Tire on my KO3's this week (removed OEM tires day 1) and below is the pattern they use. Different than Lexus but not sure who's is the best. I discreetly marked all my tires to insure rotation was done as expected.

And this is the 5 tire rotation pattern BF Goodrich recommends using. All this makes 3 different recommended rotation patterns! Lexus, Discount Tire, BFG. Maybe at the end of 5 rotations all this patterns achieve a similar result. Didn't play the scenarios out.

The difference in the Goodrich and Discount Tire sequence (vs. Lexus) is all five tires progress through both sides of the vehicle.

Lexus keeps the same two tires on the driver side and the same three on the passenger side ... evidently for the full life of the tires.

Here's my thinking:
Say you drive 100k miles on a set of tires -- not likely I know, but round numbers for this example. After 100k miles the two tires on the driver side both have 100k miles on them. However the three tires being rotated on the passenger side each have 66k miles on them (because they are each being used 2/3 of time over 100k miles). So the driver side tires have 33% more miles than passenger side. Am I missing something?
