I bought my wife a GX-550 Premium+ a few months ago as a gift for retirement, birthday, or just deserving it. She was needing to replace her 2013 Ford Flex and wanted something comparable in size. Hauling dogs around was part of the task. But we lost our large English Pointer this past spring and haven't gotten another dog. We are almost 70, retired aerospace engineers, and I thought we should spend some of the money we had saved. We took delivery July 29 of this year. I'm a jeep and truck guy, so I'm a fulltime mechanic keeping them running (especially a jeep that goes seriously off-road rock crawling), so I bought a full maintenance/extended warrantee, etc., all the stuff I've never bought for any new car. I don't want to be responsible to fix anything on her new GX.
She had some medical issues that laid her up from August to recently, and we had but 300 miles on it until yesterday. Yesterday we took it for a few hundred mile drive up to Santa Barbara and Solvang. I drove, much of it. But she drove home most of the way until she got tired. I think she's very happy with her new vehicle.
BTW, we were averaging about 10mpg around town, the first 300 miles, before we took it out on the road yesterday. On that trip, we averaged about 21 mpg. I was able to get some moderate accelerations in, and some cool down cycles. It gave the engine a chance to fully warm up and get the rings on the path to seating well. I think I'll change the oil at this point. I know I said I didn't want to work on it, but hell.
