Where do I start...

I always liked NYTOP's front bumper. For someone that doesn't offroad, IMO it's the best looking and most subtle "urban" armor for our GX's. Coupled with their cool marketing, I set my sights on buying one. When "Black Friday" rolled around, I saw that they had it on sale so I ordered one. When the box arrived, it was very well packaged but things turned south when I started to unpack each piece.

Based on their marketing, I assumed these were nicely manufactured pieces but as you can see in the pics, the welds are not clean, also some areas, you can see remnants of the welds on the "other side" as if it burned through, and there are also pitting in the metal.

I reached out to NYTOP and expressed my shock and disappointment. To their credit, they responded very quickly and professionally. They said the welds passed their QC standards but offered to pay to have it locally powdercoated in hopes of making it look better.

Since returning was not an option, I accepted and with that out of the way, I proceeded to DIY install. The package comes with very detailed instructions but by far, the hardest part of taking off the oem lower bumper is popping off the white nylon clips holding the lower valance. I know shops have taken off the whole front bumper but I will attest that it is possible to take off the nylon clips with the bumper on... it just takes small hands, a couple of very long flat screwdrivers and patience. I think that part alone took me an (frustating) hour.

The NYTOP bumper comes in three main pieces. Center and two wings (passenger and drivers). Overall, the center piece and the driver side fits fine. Everything bolts up and the side sits flush with the wheel well.

However, there were the two problems. 1) The passenger side wing - for some reason, it will not sit flush with the passenger wheel well and would stick out about 1/4 inch. 2) the fog light bolt mounting points only allowed the fog lights to sort of sit flush with the angle of the wings...which means the fog lights would be pointing to the sides of the road and not straight ahead.

(I know this is the driver side but for me to even bolt on the passenger side, I had to move the driver side "out" to match... this is what both sides looked like)

Long story short, I wanted to make this thing look good so 1) I cut new fog light mounting holes, 2) extended the mounting holes on the passenger wing and 3) trimmed off a piece of the passenger wing mounting bracket to get this to fit flush. It took me basically 3-4 days b/c I was using my drill + mini die grinder to cut through 1/2" of steel... plus hours of fitting, taking off and refitting and figuring out what I needed to modify.

Here's the final pics... looks good and I'm pretty happy with how I got it to look. I have a ton of metal shavings on my clothes but I think it was worth it. Shout out to @nonamex for his advice/help

Glad you were handy enough to make it work. It does appear to look good after you modded everything to fit appropriately. I have a CBI bumper coming that I got on their spring sale, interesting to hear you can get the lower valance off without removing the bumper. May have to give that a shot just cause I'm always a little nervous taking off a bumper and messing up a clip or two and not having it fit tight.

UPDATE: NYTOP replied to my email and they appreciated my feedback and are looking internally if any changes/improvements can be made.

absolutely insane that you need to modify a brand new part to make it fit correctly; what a joke, especially for the amount they're charging.

@DiscoPotato, Yeah, it was frustrating, esp when I am not a shop and only had home tools to make changes. However, I wanted to make it "perfect" b/c this is not a cheap vehicle and I do like their design

i have their fender flares and my opinion is that i will never buy anything from NYTOP

@quacktoduck, sorry man... I think their designs are on point but their manufacturing seems to be lacking

I'm in your camp. I'm having to spend double to correct my mistake of buying in the first place. Oh well, you live and learn.

@nonamex sorry man... hopefully you can recoup some of your costs by selling the NYTOP

@Ctprelude, yeah same. I knew if I went down that rabbit hole of taking off the bumper, I 'm going to break a clip, crack a bracket, scratch the paint or a combination of all three. At times I thought that there was no way these clips could be taken off but it is possible.

Wow, that's frustrating. Looks like the work on that bumper was severely rushed.

The catalytic converter shield/skid that I bought from them was perfect, although that's just pressed and holes are cut out with no welds needed.

I'm satisfied with NYTOP's rock sliders but was upset to learn their parts are made in China (which explains the lack of QC) - my fault for not doing my due diligence before buying.
