Hey all - curious to see whether other people benefit from this procedure or whether I'm maybe just experiencing expectation bias & placebo.
I've had rough-ish idle when sitting at stoplights since I bought my car, and I happened to stumble upon a thread I can't find anymore describing an idle idle relearn process for some recent Toyota (LX600 maybe?). I ran a modified version of this process in my car and my idle appears to be considerably smoother - curious to hear if this helps anybody else, as I've seen some forum members complain about rough idle too.
The official procedure (described as best as I can from memory, since I can't find the thread anymore)
I didn't have time to do this dedicated procedure propertly, but being in the Northeast US, it's starting to get a little bit colder, so I simply turned off the AC (but still ran heat through the climate control) and drove normally for about a week. I also made it a point to idle for 30 seconds when I got to my destination before putting it in Park and volunteered to get breakfast & coffee for my partner, because drive-throughs seem to be a natural way to meet those criteria.
I mean - my car does seem to feel like it consistently idles smoother now, whether AC is on or off - not quite 100% smooth all the time, but I'm curious to see what y'all experience. I suspect it's possible that some GX owners never engage this learning process naturally because our cars default to automatic AC mode from the factory.

The official procedure (described as best as I can from memory, since I can't find the thread anymore)
- Start the engine as normal
- Warm the vehicle up to operating coolant temperature
- Disable all consumers (A/C is most important, turn off headlights, heated / vented seats, front / rear defrost, turn off all climate control if feasible)
- Put the transmission in Drive if not already in Drive
- Accelerate to over 6mph and stay above 6mph for at least 1 second
- Come to a full stop and stay stopped, in Drive with your foot on the brake, for at least 20 seconds
- Repeat steps 5 and 6 at least 3-5 times
