Hello Everyone,

My name is Anto Mahroukian and I'm new to the Forum. Unfortunately, I got scammed by a user with the name TechLX. He has since deleted his account. I wanted to purchase an LC 250 roof rack from him and sent him half the payment reluctantly. It's my fault! I had a bad feeling! This post is just to make sure it doesn't happen to any of you. Please do not send any money to anyone without having the product in your hands! This was an expensive lesson for me but you live and you learn.

Hope there are a lot more honest people in this forum than deceitful ones. Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Thank you for the post and sorry you got scammed. There are a lot of good people on this forum. Unfortunately on occasion a scammer comes along. If you stay on the forum you will learn a lot and make better decisions about your truck. Most likely it will be worth a lot more than you lost.

which is why the only way to do it is in person, or with paypal goods and services if you want to risk it

Just be sure to check for feedback on any seller and buyer. Ask the seller or buyer to direct you to feedback and make your own simple post on the forum asking for feedback if you're not sure. Also make sure they send you a photo of the item with the current date and their name written on a piece of paper on the item, although a lot of scumbags are faking that now.

I refrained from buying something from someone on this forum because I wasn't sure about them and they got all weird about payment - wouldn't do paypal good & services (meaning a protected form of payment). When they start saying stuff like "I can't get into my paypal account" or "we use my wife's paypal account and she's out of town" or "my brother is a nigerian prince how dare you doubt me" then it's probably a scammer.

I would look at the number of posts and reactions to ensure it is a real person. It is unlikely for some one to go through the effort of creating 100 posts just to fake a sale

Yup, I've been seeing this a lot lately. AI photos with the fake generated paper that has a name and a date on it.

Was he in Miami supposedly? I saw a rack and asked he send a picture of it with a piece of paper with the date and his user name. He did - and his pinky had a large chunk out of it from AI. There are many POS's out there sadly trolling these boards. Anyone selling something with only a couple of postings and a overly cheap price is someone to be concerned with unless you can video chat or communicate enough to feel good about it.

Same person tried to get me but I reported him as a possible scammer. Sorry he got you.

Sorry to see this happen, @antomahroukian. We’re putting a new rule in place that will require at least 20 posts before anyone can post in the classifieds. Hopefully this helps prevent people from signing up just to scam members.

With the new rule in place, people should also be aware not to pursue any deals PM’d to you.

Scammers will also look to see who is responding to sales/WTB posts and then PM that they have a similar or better deal.
