Curious if most of you paid 6-8k markups?

Most GX Overtrail models are starting at 75-78k with added 6-8k mark ups. Got the green light from the wife but it seems like majority of the dealers are sticking to their mark ups :(

Don't pay a $6k or 8k markup. Search on here there's a lot of discussion, and valuable information and insights on the topic.

A few recent examples:
Is everyone paying MSRP for their GX 550's
Doc fees

PIOs (Port Installed Options, as opposed to Factory Installed Options), e.g., roof racks, roof rails, cat-back exhausts, USB charging cables are another form or mark up. Unless you actually want the option.

Read up. The more you know about how this particular model is optioned, priced and sold the better off you'll be, by far, when you get into a salesman's cube and you have the inevitable discussion 'what is the Out The Door/Drive it Off the Lot' final price.

there a few doing MSRP in CA but you have to be patient.

Instead of paying +6-8K over, there are lots of out-of-state sellers for MSRP and you'd pay $1,500 for transport and probably have a wider net to get exactly what you are looking for

There are a few at msrp for sure, for example Carlsbad. It they sell to locals first so unless live there, not much use. I ended up buying from Texas.

The link below is my experience of getting my Seaweed GX. Time or Money as I said in my most recent reply on someone's post on this forum.

Either you spend the time to research, give your deposit and wait, then wait some more.

OR

With a little elbow grease (researching and calling around), pay the dealer markup and get your rig relatively sooner.

BUT

Hopefully, not give both.

For me, time is money. I wasn't getting younger and I don't have the patience to wait. But any way you get these rigs is well worth it in my opinion.

at least you get something for the mark ups. Ceramic coating, interior protection were a couple things I had to pay extra for. I paid it reluctantly as it was a little more than aftermarket might have been but, I drove away within 2 weeks, not 2 to 6 months

Mine had ceramic coating/interior protection for $2500 which was all a padding - but I knew that walking in. Couple dealerships near LA wanted $20K over sticker...

If you can wait do Longo. They don’t do markups. Otherwise call around as some do 5k or 3k.

Thank you for advice, Longo took care of me.

I wish buyers would be more vigilant: if EVERYBODY refused to pay over MSRP, the dealers would have to come down from their high horses of scalping. Of course you could be a dick and pay markup to get to the front of the line, but if you joined the 'resistance', you'd be a dick with more money.

Got mine at Lexus Carlsbad. Paid MSRP but it had 5K of dealer addons like Ceramic coating inside and out and windshield protection etc. At the time dealers were asking 15 to 20k over list so I didn't think it was so bad. It all depends on your wait pain threshold. Eventually your going to get one at MSRP.

Unfortunately, there's a lot of people with more money than sense.

Buying around LA/SoCal sucks. But, it can be done without doing MSRP. My suggestion, get on the waitlists for the 1-2 dealerships that have non markup, then just keep following up with the others as inventory shows up. You'll find that eventually someone may wear down or they need to make a sale for the end of the month, etc. That's what happened to me. I've owned dozens of cars over the years and thought getting a Lexus would be super easy. Had no idea that you couldn't order one the way you want, let alone find one sitting on the lot. From start to finish, it took me roughly 1.5-2 months to finally get the exact color combination I wanted at MSRP from a SoCal dealership. If I were to do it all over again, I would've got on a waitlist immediately while I searched. Finally, if you really want one quickly, you can find them outside of the state with just a little bit of due diligence. I found at least 3-4 of them but did not want to purchase one due to various reasons (legal and otherwise).

Lexus Cerritos wanted $5K, but I passed. Next day I got a call to come now and they will do MSRP.
Interesting. I'd read it as a sign of either a) they need a sale to meet a goal, or b) their confidence not as high (as recent past) another party would pay a $5k markup, or c) the backlog of limited supply to meet a greater demand is diminishing.

I think i got lucky with the original customer cancelling. Sorry i should have mentioned it was back in August so no some sort of holiday sales either.
