Thule Cargo Boxes (1 Viewer)

Looking at purchasing a Thule Motion 3 Rooftop Box, mainly to hold skis and ski gear. I definitely want the Low model but can't decide between the XL or XXL. Would love to see either on the 550 to see how they look prior to buying.

What is the spread of the crossbars on the OT? I have a Premium+ and the crossbars have a 38" spread, most Thule boxes claim a Max Spread of 36 7/8 (but actually fit a little more). Just want to make sure it'll fit. I was able to put on an older Thule Atlantis 1600 XT on my Premium+ but it barely fit, not exactly what you wanted but something for comparison.

Nice set up with the rack pictured. How’s the road noise? I have an OT+ and just the small moonroof with the sunshade pulled closed I would think it would be minimal noise.

I had to sell my Yakima box because it didn’t fit. Looking now at Thule but waiting for someone to buy one that fits first

Hi, were you able to decide? I want the XXL, but i'm afraid it won't clear the hatch. I measured OT from first cross bar to hatch opening is about 53-1/2'' and XXL requires almost 55''. Also, I'm concerned about the antenna

Turns out my friend with OT+ just pulled a trigger on the motion 3 XL. it fits with room to spare so we've measured that XXL would fit as well. I saw another post from facebook that Skybox 18 fits on OT and skybox 18 length is similar to XXL.

The new Motions need crossbars because the front hangs down. If you can find an older model Motion XT Alpine you can make them work with 8020 style roof racks.

‘25 OT OEM raised cross bars will work for Thule Motion 3 XXL. Plenty of room to slide the box front and back. Also clears the antenna and trunk

Here's how I got the Thule Boxes to sit flat on top of a Prinsu / Victory type roof rack.

Used this Jeep roof rack hardware mounted to the 8020 to raise it an inch. Fits the box flush to the full rack.
