What’s One Upgrade You Didn’t Realize You Needed on the GX550? (2 Viewers)

After the great conversation around suspension last week, I’m genuinely curious:

What’s one upgrade you added to your GX that ended up punching way above its weight class?

Could be performance.
Could be protection.
Could be interior.

Sometimes it’s not the big ticket mods that make the biggest difference day to day.

I want mod surpassed your expectations!

It shouldn't have been an "upgrade" but for 50 bucks are so I got an LED light for the rear tailgate when lifted up. Really bright and nice when loading shit in and out at night. My 2025 4Runner TRD Pro had one from the factory, and also a digital rear view mirror. Really makes you wonder what Lexus was thinking, especially on an OT model.

I think it’s just as important to voice what didn’t work….. the TRD performance cat back exhaust, is not worth the money, maybe 1-2 mpg improvement but the sound is not good. I wish I had my OEM to swap it back. Just my 2 cents.

Is it highway/constant speed drone that is bad or just the sound in general across the entire RPM range?

Uhmm..right now day to day, I’d say the BamBeds platform.

It’s really helped by creating a large amount of hidden, useful storage space. Both underneath and also along both sides. And of course as an intended sleeping platform. It assembles and disassembles very quickly when needed.
It isn’t perfect as it kind of makes the 2nd row seating unusable, but in my case we never have anyone back there.

As others have done I’ve installed carpet squares on it to help hold items in place, and keep noise down.
I’m going to install one of my motion sensor lights underneath to help in the dark.

Hwy drone is not bad, It’s the stop and go that bugs me.

Before I purchased our 26 OT, we had a 24 OT that I put a Magnaflow cat back exhaust system. I did not like the increased noise from the system. It was not obnoxious, but just a wee bit loud on what I expected. I did notice a little bit of increase horsepower. I will not be putting this system on our 26 OT.

I would say the VFtune …

I've been not been able to get them to reply to emails for a refund - the unit is easily installed on US vehicles not Aussie vehicles where we need to strip the dash to install it

Definitely aftermarket power steps on my OT+ for my elderly and height challenged passengers. Also second the tailgate light.

I'm loving all of these! So good to know that the TRD exhaust may not be all it's cracked up to be. The GX has the better sounding engine vs the LC's i4, too, but that doesn't mean it will be pleasant or will suit the vehicle if it's too loud all the time!

click on the Land Bully vendor link on upper right of this site page, that's where many of us bought the LED tailgate light. They're a supporting vendor. The light is awesome.
