Hey all,

My wheels are finally coming in (17") and I'm trying to finalize my tire selection. I have a Lux+ on stock suspension and am going to go with 285/70/17.

I'm leaning on the Toyo Open Country or the Falken AT4 but can't decide on the load rating.

Looking for your opinions on whether I should go with SL or C load tire. I don't go offroading and I prioritize NVH first and fuel efficiency second.

Any personal experience would be appreciated!

There is absolutely no reason to get LT rated tires with your list of requirements. They will ride worse and weigh more/have worse fuel efficiency.

If no offroading then SL is the way to go. Less weight and better ride.

SL is fine for gravel and forest roads as well.
SL is pretty good for more aggressive trail roads as well assuming it’s a) not the rubicon) and b) close to stock weight. All photos below are on SL rated tires. I follow this forum as the GX and LC have a lot of similarities.

I have C-Load AT4W LT on mine. They are a little louder, a little more jittery, and much heavier. With your priority on NVH and fuel economy SL is the right answer all day long.
Bummer. Looking to go 285/70 in this tire when my OEMs go

Absolutely! I used the OEM tires at Death Valley on the road to Racetrack Playa. I took it to Barker Ranch and other remote places including trails at Anza Borrego.

I'm going down to 285/70R17 Mickey Thompson Baja AT SL as soon as my Toyo AT3s wear out. Prefer the ride quality of SL over C load and need the weight reduction.
