That’s a good point. The lock pins are so flimsy to begin with so probably makes sense to continue to use the modified original pin so the rack doesn’t fall off while driving and when I leave it at the trailhead for a while just loop a chain through the rear tow hook and rack body.

I have 1up and rocky mounts racks, both offer an extended pin for the receiver (which I now have!). For the rockymounts, its called the XL Hitch Bolt and is like $10 and then 1up they sell replacement pins at various lengths, I think they're like $15.
