Adaptive matrix LED high beams on the GX

Does anyone know if Lexus has Adaptive matrix LED high beams on the GX550 in any country?

Knowing how awesome this feature works, it would have been great to see it on a GX (especially on the US GX) - however, my google searches are coming up short. Looks like there just isn't any market where Toyota/Lexus has this enabled on the GX.

In China and Japan, yes! Every Lexus with triple-beam headlights (ES, RX, GX, LX) comes with AHS (Adaptive High Beam System). Now that Tesla has passed U.S. regulations for matrix high beams, I believe Toyota will introduce AHS to the U.S. market sometime in 2026. And at that time, I will definitely trade in my current GX to a new one.
I attached some photos of the gx550h( only available in China for now with 2.4t hybrid engine), which has AHS and rear fog light as well(really want those)

Awesome! Would you know if the Hardware is different between US vs China/Japan spec headlamps or is it just the matter of software update?

In the US market - Tesla as well as Rivian both now have factory Adaptive lights, I am thinking its probably not per manufacturer, but regulations have allowed anyone to manufacture vehicles with those lights.

Lets see - but I highly doubt if Japanese will do it as early as 2026 models (being as conservative on tech as they are!)

The hardware is different, and if you try putting the GX550h headlight unit into a GX550, the AHS won’t work—you’ll just get a dashboard full of Christmas lights.

The reason I believe AHS will come to the U.S. next year is that Toyota has already been testing this technology for many years in Europe, Australia, and Asia. It’s a mature system that Toyota can readily implement.

The original U.S. regulations were too strict, which discouraged automakers from investing heavily in separate development just for the U.S. market. Now companies like Toyota and Tesla have helped push for regulatory updates—and with Tesla already deploying matrix high beams—Toyota can simply update its production lines for the US market, stop manufacturing the plastic filler panels, and equip all models with AHS instead.

GX550 Poll

  • When its stock

  • After you add some offroad lights

  • Once you do a collar lift, OE tires or any tire 33inch and less

  • A true lift with aftermarket suspension and 34s+

  • Lift, 35s+, rack, lighting, mole panels, spare wheel and carrier

  • None of the above
