Gas cap retainer cord/disconnecting

This is beneath the earth’s crust of important things to worry about-remain curious though:) The plastic line that is connected to the gas cap and then connects to the car to keep it from falling-I swear the bit on the end of the line is too small to stay in place. Actually, mine pops off every time I take the gas cap off and try to put it in the notch in the door when refueling. Clearly one of society’s greatest concerns! Anyone have a simple fix for that? Thank you:)

If you take off the plastic trim from the inside of the door and give me some measurements, I will 3D print you a retaining clip.

Edit: Actually, I may be overthinking it. I bet you can easily make one out of some scrap HDPE like from a 1 gallon water jug. The clip would slide in between the nub and the plastic trim.

Thanks for the help I will try it out

This is roughly the shape I have in mind. The hole would be just big enough to fit around the neck of the nub and prevent it from pulling through the hole in the plastic trim.
