Has anyone else seen this relatively new YouTube post?

To me, it's like comparing apples vs oranges, because the 4Runner was a part-time 4X4 while the GX550 OT was full-time 4X4 - the full-time 4X4 negates this comparison. If he would have compared a 5th gen 4Runner Limited against the GX550 I suspect he would have notice a similar performance, but the increased power and drivetrain of the GX550 would be significantly better.

I've owned a 5th gen 4Runner Limited, and my GX550 is far superior in power, smoothness, and quietness. While I really enjoyed the 4Runner, my GX500 beats it in almost everyway except for price; but with the new price increase on 2025 6th gen 4Runner it gets much closer to GX MSRP. So, I figure you get what you pay for - the GX550 is worth those extra costs

Interesting as the GX550 seems to send all power to the path of least resistance. I will have to review this video in detail (so far I just quick watched it once with a lot of fast forward). But is seems that even with "all wheel drive" the GX becomes one wheel drive with the center diff UNlocked. This makes sense, but I thought that the computer-aided traction control would divert the power to the front wheel on-the-ground with traction. Perhaps not....I need to study the variability of the system, if there is such a thing with the Lexus full time 4-wheel drive system.

that’s the guy who thinks atrac is better than a real locker right?

He lives in a pretty glass house to be calling out other YouTubers so much lol.

I saw the 4Runner comparison video a while back. My thoughts were that since the GX is most RWD biased with its center torsion diff, it would need more power (wheel spin) to get the front to engage. The old limited slip rear diff's would require quite a bit of throttle engagement to send power to the opposite side. A better test would be to have the two trucks pull out making a left turn from a stop sign in the snow (traction control off) and see what happens when you get in the throttle. The rear drive only 4Runner would be doing a dougnt very quickly and pointing the wrong direction. The full time 4wd (GX or my 80 series with similar setup) would start to kick out and the front would pull forward enough to stay pointed the right direction. With enough throttle it will drift sideways in a giant arch eventually pulling straight. With traction control in they would both reduce the throttle input and apply light braking to the spinning inside wheel. In the 4RUNNER the added power to the outside rear would be good until it to brakes loose and the system detects a full spin coming and it kills most all throttle to slow everything down to almost a stop. The GX will have power sent to the front when the inside side rear spins(likely the inside front) and then even more power would be sent forward if both rear wheels get braking applied. In this case less power would be cut as forward progress will be made since the rear end is not sliding out as much. This is so much better in the real world but maybe not identified as such in the demonstration.

This same youtuber put out ridiculous fear content about the 550 before he started selling the value of it.

I also find him to be quite annoying.

Go back and watch his videos. He’s wrong about a lot of $hit.

That’s the clickbait of youtube though. Be opinionated, tick people off to comment, and he gets paid
