How to make the ride smoother

Has anyone figured out a way to make the ride smoother? It is a rougher ride than I expected or like! Thanks for any advice.
Which wheels are you running? I noticed a huge difference in ride going from an OE 20" rim with all weather tires that came with my Prem+ to OE 18" OT rims with Toyo A/T's.

I have a Premium plus with OEM20”. Also have a set of 18” winter wheel and winter tires. The 18” are significantly softer and nicer ride all round. You may notice drop of handling but that’s mostly at the extreme limits. I just switched back to the OEM 20”s and at 32psi, feel more of the bumps on the road and also a little more oscillating when going fast through rough roads.

If I stick to 20”, for my replacement tires I will go up in sidewall height with a wider 275 60 series or similar instead of the OEM 55 series.

Awesome! Thanks so much for this! I truly appreciate it! I love my GX MINUS the “ride”! I just have to to get it smoother however that may be!

Yes I did it was 35
35 psi is okay - I have my 18" Toyos inflated to 38 psi cold pressure. I check the tire pressure when warm/hot via the dash screen, Tire Pressure screen, and they are reading 39 psi. The tires are smooth with not bounce and no balance issues I am pleasantly surprised. The higher pressures ensure better gas mileage and best wear for long life.
If tires are underinflated, the outer edges of the tires will wear quicker resulting in shorter tread life, less economic life.
If you are one to change tires for seasonal reasons or trail use, or just "because you want to", then tread life is not a concern and you can run your tires at whatever pressure you believe in. Just don't drive with very low, under inflated tires because that could cause you a problem with tires separating from the rim of the wheel when you least expect it.

I have the OT and it does ride quit a bit harder than the last 4 GX's I've had. I noticed it right away but it was acceptable to me. GX's have always been so reliable. That's why I can accept the stiffer ride.

I lowered cold tire pressure to 34 PSI on my 18" rims. The ride was improve and I also noticed that the outer tread was making contact with the ground which was not the case at 36 PSI.

I test drove an overtrail last Friday, but I don’t know what the air pressure was set at. It was very rough over road joints on a small rural road. In fact, I was surprised by how rough it rode. Our 2012 GX460 with TRD bilsteins (4Runner take-offs)is a much softer ride.

I am hoping a premium model has a smoother ride.

If not, I wonder if a good set of shocks would do a bunch to help the ride quality.

I drove a premium and OT back to back when I was first looking at them. OT has a better ride hands down. Adjustable dampers, plus taller sidewalls make a big difference. Now that I drive one a daily basis I find the ride to be very good. I run at 34PSI.

I had a RX350 as a loaner car the other day while my brakes got replaced on the OT+.
It was like floating on a cloud compared to the GX.

Running at 34/35 psi on 18's - the GX is still quite rough.

Geez, now I am worried. I know my wife commented on how rough she thought the ride on the GX550 OT was…..

And if that’s the better of the two….

I wonder if you feel much difference in ride quality after a few thousand miles?”.
