I figured since the market is starting to grow with owners and accidents are bound to happen, let's see photos from recent accidents and we can discuss/commiserate together.

I'll kick it off. Just a quick drive to run errands and a blatant red-light runner jumped in front of me. Insurance totaled the car (obviously due to how new they are, availability of parts, and the fact that its only made in Japan)

Sorry this happened to you. I hope everyone was OK.

Curious if you are able to grab your wheels and roof rack when this happens? Or does insurance pay you out for them and the whole vehicle is theirs to do with what they want?

You have to be really on top of your insurance company to be sure that they reimburse you for the extra stuff like wheels, tires, etc. Of course they'll try to not cover it but they will eventually if you fight the good fight.

Luckily it was just me... walked away with a few scrapes. To Bluegill's point, if you make any modification or additions outside of OEM, make sure your insurer knows it and have receipts. The wheels and rims will get fully reimbursed, the roof rack adds minimal value, so I'm probably gonna have to go to the tow yard to yank it off and replace it with the OEM rails. I have a call out to my local Lexus dealer to see what the wait looks like, but I may entertain jumping to a different vehicle, just not sure what I'd replace the 550 with.
