My kick to open rear hatch stopped working. I brought my truck in for the oil change and reported this. It now works but the explanation I got was weird.

I was told that the feature was disabled because the battery volage went too low.

I realize these sensors are powered even with the vehicle off but why wouldn't they reactivate when the battery returns to "normal". Also, why would the battery be down so low to deactivate this? Everything else was working. Seems odd.

Interesting. My hatch sensor stopped working recently. I don't think it's an optical sensor but don't know for sure. I have an oil change soon and may ask as well.

Your truck went into "Power Save Mode" because it thought the battery was getting tired, and it was too lazy to turn the sensor back on by itself once the battery charged up.
If it happens again, try these two quick fixes before heading to the dealer:
The Menu Toggle: Go into your center screen: Settings > Vehicle Customization > Door Control. Check if the "Kick Sensor" or "PBD" (Power Back Door) got flipped to OFF. Just flip it back to ON.
The "Hard Reset": Hold the trunk close button on the actual hatch for about 5–10 seconds until it beeps. This usually forces the computer to "wake up" and recalibrate the motor and sensors.

Tried both. Door setting was ok, and button hold reset on hatch didn't work. I did hear it beep twice then twice again after 5 sec.
