Skid Plate

Everybody have this gap between the frame & the mid plate or just me?? Its odd bc there’s clips like something fits in that gap. Never noticed until I took the running boards off..

Yes

Looks very odd from the side if you are down in a ditch and truck is parked up high. Looks like the skid hangs far too low, they could have tucked it up several inches higher.

Those clips are from the plastic portion that is clipped into the aluminum skid plate.

The low-hanging design makes it a great shelf for mud and salt to settle on and just sit there forever unless you really go out of your way to clean it out.

Apparently it is designed this way. Still seems like a poor design as it looks like something is hanging off the bottom of the truck 🥴

If you make like a big rock in the trail and imagine the path of a skid plate and the general underside components as they drag over you, you'll understand why it's made that way. It's not just a "bash" plate; it's a "skid" plate. They could theoretically vacuum-form plates to the bottom profile of the truck but then they won't skid over obstacles.

It does look goofy from certain angles, though. I was doing some work down in a retention basin and my eyes were level with the bottom of the truck parked next to the basin and I thought something had come unattached under there.

Exactly. When I 1st noticed it, I thought it had popped loose. Still not sure why it needs to sit that low 🤷

I'm pretty sure that if you really banged the full weight of the truck on the skid plate in that gap section it would collapse inward. Maybe it's like how they design the hoods nowadays with plenty of cushion between the outer hood skin and the hard parts of the engine so that the welfare morons blocking the road in protest of some hippie bullshit don't die when you lose your patience on your way to work and plow through them.

Happy Hour started a little early? Lol
