Brought home the new GX550 a couple of days ago to replace my Defender. Lots of great adventures in the Defender, sorry to see it go, but the wife is insistent after it was flat bedded 3 times in the last month with a hard to diagnose brake failure. It’s still in the shop, but I think the problem has been identified. Highly customized for overland travel, may take awhile to find the right buyer.

I got lucky with the new Overtrail. After a couple of false starts with less than scrupulous dealers I put a $500 deposit down with a local dealer to get in the queue. Expected 6 months or more, but he called the next morning to offer a cancellation that had just occurred, at list, on the lot. I was home with the new truck by noon.

Initially impressions are very positive. Truck like ride compared to the Defender, not unexpected. It’ll need new bumpers, winch, rock rails, skid plates and a rack to start.

Onward.
