Canadian GX550 madness - cannot purchase, long wait times, high deposits, threat of export (2 Viewers)

I’ve just put a deposit on a 2026 in the Montréal area and the dealership told me that I should receive my GX before June. I’m a little worried right now after reading your post… :( Any other people are experiencing the same?

I think if your wait time will be OK if you can be a little loose with your colour choice, as options are rather limited with trim limes in Canada. You only real choice would be the colour, you may be bumped up if someone in front of you dropped the line.

Thanks for giving me hope! I really, really love the Earth color, so I hope I’ll be able to get mine with the specs I'm looking for ; OT+, Earth exterior colour and black interior (I can be flexible for the interior...). To be honest, I don’t really understand how the allocation process works. I’ve put down a deposit on the car—Lexus/Toyota receives the order, and then what happens? Toyota need to say yes?

The process is Lexus makes whatever they make, they allocate whatever they want to the dealers, and the dealers compare the list of what’s coming to what people want to dole out allocations to customers.

That’s why there is no timeline, the dealers in Canada don’t know what they are getting until they are on the boat.

I waited 2 years for mine, eventually got a call saying it would be here in 2 weeks. That was the extent of the communication.

Thats sucks man...! I'm coming from Audi and BMW, the order process was very quick and easy, like they want my business. I've heard good things about Lexus, but the order process seems to be a fuc&1?$ pain in the a$$... I wonder if I did the right thing now...!

I’m not upset about it. They almost lost my sale over it when I had other cars I ordered options come up before the Lexus though. Is what it is.

Lexus works much better when you walk in and buy something off the lot.

Not sure their pipeline is really setup for a car where they have a huge amount more demand than production capacity.

The long wait list times for Canadians is insane and real. I put my deposit down May 2024. Was informed my deposit turned into firm order at end of Jan 2926. My GX OT+ scheduled to arrive in port of Vancouver March 8th.

Canada is in such disarray. I hate to see it change so much from what it once was. Such frustration for you, and for no good reason.

Question for the US GX550 owners... I've read about the the insane theft issues in Canada and UK. I'm on the wait list for a Lux+ in the Atlanta metro area and curious if theft is a problem in the US. Has anyone had one stolen?

Invest in a good aftermarket alarm system with hood lock, ignition kill, and backup battery siren. That should stop 95% of car thieves.

Have not heard of any GXs stolen, but I've heard of some LC250s for sure.

I'll bring a concept from the motorcycle world - the best way to prevent theft from affecting you is to have comprehensive insurance. Any deterrent measures purely stop thefts of opportunity where people prowl the streets and see your car as an easy target. If somebody really wants your car specifically, there's nothing you can buy to stop them from taking it.

Well, I found the best deterrent is still physical obstruction, like a garage or physical barrier that prevent thefts access the vehicle or get away. Either way, the issue is prevalent now. I heard it is even spreads to Japan and Australia now.

True, if a car thief is desperate enough, he will find a way to steal your vehicle. But the whole point of anti-theft devices is that you want to make it as difficult as possible that will persuade the thief that his effort is not worth it.

A very good car immobilizer I used in the past was the Clifford BlackJax. It’s an anti-carjacking device that prevents unauthorized operation of your vehicle if you don’t enter a secret code. BlackJax turns on every time the car door is opened, and a secret code needs to be entered or else the engine stalls and the car alarm goes off. The first few months can be a little annoying, but it becomes second nature once you get used to it.

In this situation, the only way a car thief would be able to take my old car would be to tow it. But if you have LoJack installed as well, you can immediately determine where your car is, and have law enforcement take action.

Just received mine 2026 OT in Caviar. Put a $5k deposit Oct 2025. Im here in Vancouver and at the time was told it would be a 1-2 year waitlist. Im super paranoid now that it's going to get stolen. Sales guy gave me a 1 month heads up when it was about to arrive. So far happy with the process as they gave a pretty accurate estimate of wait time. Didn't like that I could not purchase all in cash, had to put a small finance on it. Also had to sign a form that I can't export the vehicle
