My GX is scheduled to be here in a week and I'm going to pass on it (1 Viewer)

Your F150 sounds nice. I’d stick it out with that truck if you really like it and don’t need to get into the GX

I have been waiting for 6 months on my GX and got word that it was coming in around 9/9 - 9/20. The salesman at Lexus of Tulsa asked me to bring my trade in yesterday to get it valued and set up how I want the names on the title.

I was going to trade my 2025 F-350 Superduty Single Rear Wheel, Ultimate Lariat, Tremor really loaded absolutely pristine truck with 12,600 miles on it.

The salesman said "Man, if we were a Ford dealer, we could put this on the showroom floor!". It's really that clean as it's been garage kept, has an 8 year ceramic coating on it, etc. The bare bottom of the trade value for it is $75,000 and goes up to around $80,000, it originally stickered at $95,000.

They offered me $70,000 for it and had on their appraisal $1500 for clean up and "dent repair". it doesn't have a scratch, dent, paint chip or any damage of any kind on it anywhere, it's as clean as they get. About 4 months ago, the dealer I bought it from offered me $78,000 for it, which I declined because trade was showing as $81,000 at that time... In any case, I'd told my salesman I was willing to go to $75,000, and no lower just to make the deal, but they weren't interested.

The only thing I came away from this with is, they know if I don't take the GX, they can make one or two phone calls to the next person on the wait list and sell it so they really don't care at all if I buy from them. That's the part where I walked away. THEY DON'T CARE AT ALL about You, Me, or Anyone else. They know they will sell GX's all day long to hungry buyers and if you don't like it you can buy something else. If I was in the market for a $30,000 Camry and that was the attitude, I wouldn't be bothered by it, but this deal? I'm about to basically give them $90,000 and they couldn't care less about me or that deal? What happens if something really goes south with it and it needs some serious warranty work? Will they care then? Probably not.

At the end of the day, I actually really like my Truck. It's a blast to drive and get's about the same MPG as the GX. I just don't need a Truck that can tow 20,000 pounds and it's really big, sort of difficult to park, etc. I test drove a Luxury + model while they were "appraising" my trade and to be honest, the driving experience was absolutely NOT better than driving my truck. So, with that, I'll bid you all farewell and wish you all the best with your awesome GX's! I do really like them and I did really want one, but not at the expense of being treated like I don't matter at all because I'm easily replaced as a buyer and Lexus doesn't really care. I expected better and though I've been test driving Lexus products for years and just never found the right one, now I will never own one. After sleeping on it, even if my salesman called today and said "Ok, they will give you the $75,000, are we good?" I'd still pass.

Cheers!
Smart move. You dodged a bullet.

I have 31,380 Miles on my GxX Overtrail and haven't had any problems at all.
Mine is a December 2024 build. I traded in my 2022 GX with 60,000 miles and they gave me exactly what Carmax said they would give me.
The 2024 Overtrail is my 5th GX over the years and I've never had a problem with one of them except maintenance and normal wear and tear. The dealership Longo Lexus in SoCal has always treated me great.

A bit sad to see a deal go south over $5K at this level of money....but someone has to take the $5K hit and the dealer knows they don't have to. Like you mentioned, that GX will sell in 30 seconds once you walk away. Can you blame car salesmen for acting like car salesmen?

yep - car dealers don't buy you dinner before they screw you.

Lot to unpack here and I'll try my best to be kind. I bought at Tulsa and know several other people who bought at Tulsa and have nothing but good things to say about them. I'd recommend them to anyone. I didn't go there expecting anything other than a business transaction and that's exactly what I got in a very hassle free manner.

Dealerships are in business to make money, Like every other single business out there. They are not required to take your old vehicle on a trade. It's a mutual benefit when it works out for both parties, but they are only going to do it for the right amount of profit. They did not owe you anything on your truck. Trading a one year old vehicle is almost always a losing proposition. Nothing unique or personal about it.

The option to trade is yours. If you don't like their price, sell it to someone else for the price you want. Or keep it. They are selling you a GX at MSRP when they could sell it with a substantial markup. How much did they require you to put down on it while you waited? I put down $0 there and got mine earlier than expected. My deal with them was a GX at MSRP and that's exactly what I got. A mutual business transaction that all parties were happy with.

In the end, vehicles are really a dime a dozen and not something worth getting emotional over. No need for a scorched earth policy to Lexus just because they didn't value your trade in as much as you did.
Hope you end up happy whatever you drive.

You're getting salty for them operating like a business? The dealership not wanting to befriend you, will change what vehicle you purchase? lol...

Sell the car privately and buy the GX for MSRP?

This is such an old-man boomer take lol.

Like yeah man, very surprising that a salesman for one of the most in demand products in his market isnt forming a personal connection with every potential buyer to sell it ... thats so crazy ... Even crazier to take a random salesman's lack of faux desire to become your buddy this personally.

Probably good that you stuck with your ford, you didnt want the GX in the first place.

i can see why u decided to pass.

I guess i was one of those customers they sold someone else's order to.
when i decided to get my gx, I walked into the closest lexus dealer and picked a car from the lot. They tried to add some "adjustment" cost of 10k on msrp and I simply walked away. they kept calling and messaging back lowering that difference by a few thousands each time..

I finally paid 1600 over msrp after a week and drove out the same car.

Maybe i was lucky no one else bought it by then but it was nice to see them struggle to get me to close the deal..

i heard of people who never ordered a car and picked their cars off the lot at msrp.

there are always customers who show the dealer they "they dont matter"

long after bitterness at the dealership is over, our patronage to the brand and more importantly, the relationship with that car will always remain.
