I really want new wheels/tires for my L+ but not sure the direction I want to go. I want the aesthetics of a bigger tire and Vossen rims. The question is, if I should go 22 or 20s w a +30 offset. I don’t want to go E load tires. I prefer SL but XL would be the max. Was thinking Toyo AT3s. I care more about not hurting gas mileage even if it’s 1-2mpg, as well as, road noise. I’m also keeping in mind if I want to do a wescott lift or just the Peak 1.25 front lift as the stock front rake drives my OCD nuts. For those who did 22s with E load, do you regret it? For those who have 20s, does it ride that much better? I also am not doing much off-roading and this will be my daily street vehicle. Any input would be appreciated.

I just imagine a 22in AT3 looking like this

IMHO - the stock GX 550 OT+ has a dreamy ride for the street. Customization and personalization is always a matter of taste. Being that for now your OT plus is mostly on the street heavier rims and beefier tires will almost certainly affect your bottom line consideration: mileage.

Likewise with regard to other modifications: a roof rack will add wind noise and reduce mileage. And rock rails WILL be less accommodating to ladies and gents for whom a step facilitates entry into a 1 inch taller 550 OT / OT plus….

My personal approach to this catch 22 has been to either 1. Pace my purchases (wheels/ tires) until my use justifies the addition, or 2. pick up these various accoutrement: Alu-cab, rock rails, roof rack and Thule and keep them in storage for when they
are needed.

Your best and least expensive option is to embrace the age old adage: “the wealthiest men are those who are contented 😌 with what they have.”

Unfortunately, with regard to motoring, I lead the pack with finding increments of joy in tweaking my toys to my tastes.. 😅 .. and my storage space taking the brunt of that perpetual discontent, and purchasing indiscretion.

In the end the right decision will be the one with which you are happiest, irrespective of mileage and noise.

I would be concerned that the Peak leveling kit would give you a squatted look if you tow or have a load of any weight. I installed the WD leveling kit which removed half of my rake leaving any remaining unnoticeable. Plus it gives me a cushion for heavy loads (I don’t tow) so that I won’t squat when I do load up. I kept OEM wheels on my 25 OT+ but upgraded to a 33.7” tire so I have no experience with your stated wheels. Lost a couple MPG’s with the tire upgrade since it’s an E Load tire.

I don’t tow or carry heavy load often. I also heard that catastrophic failure can occur when the springs are fully compressed on the Peak front level kit bc it doesn’t hit the bump stop prior to the frame. Dunno how true this is or if it’s something of concern if I’m just dailying the GX. Thanx for the reply
