I have been waiting for 6 months on my GX and got word that it was coming in around 9/9 - 9/20. The salesman at Lexus of Tulsa asked me to bring my trade in yesterday to get it valued and set up how I want the names on the title.
I was going to trade my 2025 F-350 Superduty Single Rear Wheel, Ultimate Lariat, Tremor really loaded absolutely pristine truck with 12,600 miles on it.
The salesman said "Man, if we were a Ford dealer, we could put this on the showroom floor!". It's really that clean as it's been garage kept, has an 8 year ceramic coating on it, etc. The bare bottom of the trade value for it is $75,000 and goes up to around $80,000, it originally stickered at $95,000.
They offered me $70,000 for it and had on their appraisal $1500 for clean up and "dent repair". it doesn't have a scratch, dent, paint chip or any damage of any kind on it anywhere, it's as clean as they get. About 4 months ago, the dealer I bought it from offered me $78,000 for it, which I declined because trade was showing as $81,000 at that time... In any case, I'd told my salesman I was willing to go to $75,000, and no lower just to make the deal, but they weren't interested.
The only thing I came away from this with is, they know if I don't take the GX, they can make one or two phone calls to the next person on the wait list and sell it so they really don't care at all if I buy from them. That's the part where I walked away. THEY DON'T CARE AT ALL about You, Me, or Anyone else. They know they will sell GX's all day long to hungry buyers and if you don't like it you can buy something else. If I was in the market for a $30,000 Camry and that was the attitude, I wouldn't be bothered by it, but this deal? I'm about to basically give them $90,000 and they couldn't care less about me or that deal? What happens if something really goes south with it and it needs some serious warranty work? Will they care then? Probably not.
At the end of the day, I actually really like my Truck. It's a blast to drive and get's about the same MPG as the GX. I just don't need a Truck that can tow 20,000 pounds and it's really big, sort of difficult to park, etc. I test drove a Luxury + model while they were "appraising" my trade and to be honest, the driving experience was absolutely NOT better than driving my truck. So, with that, I'll bid you all farewell and wish you all the best with your awesome GX's! I do really like them and I did really want one, but not at the expense of being treated like I don't matter at all because I'm easily replaced as a buyer and Lexus doesn't really care. I expected better and though I've been test driving Lexus products for years and just never found the right one, now I will never own one. After sleeping on it, even if my salesman called today and said "Ok, they will give you the $75,000, are we good?" I'd still pass.
Cheers!
