Time to say Goodbye GX550 Lux+ (9 Viewers)

Probably right, for now that’s RX. I will add GX550 rides great with a bit of weight in either rear seats, cargo or when towing - I’ve noticed it very much smooths the ride.

GR8Santini, I agree. All companies must know who their target customers are and evolve their products to meet their needs. However, I think the Premium and Premium (+) could have retained the softer luxury ride for that group of buyers and the Overtrail and OT (+) targeted to the younger or off-road groups of buyers. Not sure how this scenario would have been handled on the assembly line though.

I was wondering about that, given the max payload is what, around 1400 lbs?

Toyota is already doing it with the 4Runner. I believe the Trailhunter and TRD Pro trims both come with a different set of shocks (OME and Fox respectively)

They are also already doing it on the GX. The OT, Premium, and Lux models each have unique part numbers for the springs and shocks (front and rear).

I think it's not a matter of production optimization, it's simply tuning choice. Lexus seems to have taken a hard left turn in this vehicle to give it significantly less body roll and significantly less body on frame scuttle shake. For me, I love it; my biggest gripe with previous Lexus SUVs was their horrendous, sketchy body roll. I probably would have picked a softer 22in tire for the Lux models, but after 10k miles, the ride seems to be softening considerably.

I think Lexus is simply adapting to consumer tastes and choosing a different target market with their ride quality tuning.

Yes they might have different part numbers but how much do you think they differ and in what way realistically?
The ride seems to be consisted across the trim levels. Toyota is offering a whole new suspension (different brand/model).

Hey ADTGUY, sorry we kinda hijacked your thread. However, it has a been an educational discussion and I believe at the end of the day thats what these forums are intended to be.

Way too many people buy the GX based solely on looks. It is basically the Toyota Land Cruiser with a much better powertrain. It is a body on frame, truck with four-wheel-drive. It’s shaped like a brick and weighs 5500 pounds. It is not going to be super quiet, and it’s not going get great gas mileage. But it will tow 9000 pounds and surprise a lot of Jeep owners off-road. Never buy vehicle based on looks alone.
I will actually comment on this. First, like always, the Gx is based on the counterpart Land Cruiser Prado. I get that the J152 gx460 was a delight and the J150 prado is a rugged suv... People... I Own a 2022 J150 prado which is a Bof vehicle... Non adaptive dampers and KDSS.
This year (march) we received the 2026 Gx550 Overtrail... Even if it has AVS + E-KDSS it rides rougher than My 4 year old prado with passive dampers... It wiggles and jiggles and vibrates sooo much more than the prado and yes... The seats are a lot more comfortable in the Previos J150 vs the J250....
The badge and the looks have a very important level for the final desicion on buying it...

My take on this is that Toyota Grabed the J250 and actually did a better offroad Prado... Stiffer fram, better angles stronger axles and better electronics...
But My guess is that in the Lexus they wanted to make this dude work in so many situations that well they had to compromise....

They could have done more final tunne on the road vibrations and actually fit a better seat... Much of the vibrations are felt in the seat...
Wouldve had better cushions or maybe a hydraulic point for the seats like what tacoma trd pro had... To make it ride better (feel)....

I dont like how this suspension is tune... When roads are bad it never settles fhen smooth roads keep it wiggling ...
I love it and hate it at the same time ..
The only luck i have ... It's my mothers and not mineee..

Those are all things I have NEVER noticed on my GX Overtrail +

Yup, you bought the wrong vehicle for your use case. This has happened to quite a few people on this forum, but it still surprises me that a) people are still cross-shopping this with luxury unibody SUVs/people haulers and b) that more people don't figure it out on the test drive. The first thing we noticed when test driving it was that it felt more like an F250 than it did a luxury unibody SUV. For us, it fits the bill perfectly, but then again we were cross shopping it with other body on frame vehicles with similar towing capacity and offroad capability and it gets used in the forest and on the farm. If I were looking for a vehicle to haul kids around or go out for a steak dinner on the town it wouldn't even make the top 20 list.
I get your point, but like i said .... I have a bof vehicle.. and it doesn't ride like this gx550... The land Cruiser Prado 150 rides better with no jitteryness....
We wanted a stronger bigger suv.... But not stiffer than the prado...
We replaced the bmw x6 xdrive 40i with air suspension for this gx550....
Luckily my mother does not care on the rough suspension... But man i just can not get used to it...
When we drove an lx600 damn boy... That beast iss really comfortable...
Then again.... They do not share the same "area"....
We are replacing our 2024 GLs450 for a 2026 Lx600....
But for a comfortable daily driver ... This is not.. not even on the overtrail with 18 wheels that i have..

Those are all things I have NEVER noticed on my GX Overtrail +
Whattt?? Literally my friend I am not kidding...
It has right no just under 4,000 kilometers of use...
And i did a long test drive of it today....
I do have to point out ... Panama streets are extremely bad on how they are paved...
When you drive in really smooth streets this vehicle rides fine... Thats the best i can say... But the take on road feel is very different...
I lterally just had a talk with my mother .. and she said she doesnt. Feel anything that i point out...

It sounds like this model was not designed for your typical use and roadways.

I have a P+ without AVS or E-KDSS, and I'm coming from a long run of BoF vehicles. I have no complaints on the comfort, unless I'm lazy and don't keep up with the tire pressures. Nothing different IMO from all the other BoF vehicles I've owned.

Thats so interesting actually...
Our rooads are even worsee than australia. When you drive a stiff valve suspension vehicle it really tells you when a streets is badly paved...
I also have nx350h and literally a back to back drive... Its imposible to say they drive similar ..

morning, indeed i did the test drive, my imput was the factor for the puurchase for my mother.
Many have complaineed abooouut thee ride.
sorry for some letters n thee words beiing rrepeated i am fighting against my keeybooard...
Look, l love this dudee, indeed I do.
You fall in live with it..
I have learned to drive it in different modes and actuaally when driving and you engage mts auto... it do soften the ride and has a better control over speed bumps..
Some vibrations dissapear when driven on sport s+...
but there is a constant feel, that personally I do not like it.

We also own a 2013 Land cruiser sahara ( twin turbo diesel) 200 series and a 2016 Lexus Lx570...
We bought a 2026 Lx600 this year.

The jittter onn this new frame is exactly the same in the J250 Prado Vx with adaptive variable suspension, The land >Cruiser 300 seires Sahar ZX which we almost bough and the Lx600.

Something tells me, this is because this frame is stiffer...
The jitter in the frame is different from the bounciness from the previous one ( brincona) we say it in spanish...
Every BOF brinca like we say (constanly jumps, some more, some less)

but the new ones do it a lot more constant...

I like this forum cause we can say many things... about this new vehicles..
But indeed, the New Gx, stopped being the Plush Riding Lexus It used to be, to become a more engaged , dynamic Ride.
Once you actually push this vehicle, hustle it.. you understand the compromises , its actually more eviden with the E-kdss and how it does remove so much the body roll..
everything is a compromise...

Land Cruiser might have better met your expectations, but the GX your mom’s.
