Do you consider the GX 550 OT not a 4x4? In another FB group post, an enthusiast says the GX is only a 4WD.

Well, what does 4x4 mean? I've always interpreted 4x4 as synonymous with 4WD.

A minivan or a Porsche that can drive all 4 wheels is "all wheel drive" or AWD.

The GX550 is very much a 4x4 or 4WD truck. It has a locking center differential and a locking rear differential (OT models). It's a bod on frame truck. How much more truckish can you get? I guess if it still had a solid front axle it would be a touch more truckish.

Sounds like someone just wanting to argue semantics. What is a 4X4? I'd say any vehicle capable of distributing power to front and rear at the same time. Has nothing to do with how that's actually done or if one or both axles have the ability to be locked. 4WD, 4X4, same, same.

Hmm..maybe they are thinking typical old days where you manually get out and lock the front hubs? Dunno.

That enthusiast is probably “that guy”. You tell him you have Tupperware and he’ll say “actually, Tupperware is a brand. What you have there is a container from Rubbermaid”.
