I'm coming down to my final choices for 285/70/17s. Going for a C load rating as an in-between of SL and E. No towing or heavy load considerations required.

Toyo
Pro - More road comfortable and good wet/dry reviews.
Cons - Really low Q speed rating. I take long interstate trips and the C load tire with Q speed rating seems like a dangerous choice unless it's run at max psi. Does anyone have experience with this tire at this size and ratings?

K03
Pros - surprisingly 3 lbs lighter in white letter than the Toyo. S speed rated.
Cons - Less grippy than Toyo and maybe harsher ride

My gut says go with the K03 because of the speed rating. My butt says the Toyo would be less harsh.

Thoughts?

As always, I appreciate others' experiences.

In my opinion, Q speed rating is perfectly fine unless you're planning to exceed 99 MPH regularly. I have found that Toyo Tires are relatively quiet and comfortable. They also maintain their round shape pretty well especially during cold mornings.

My 285/75R17 C Load have been pretty good in all conditions so far (rock crawling, sand, ice, snow, and dirt). Moving to Toyo 35/10.5R17 C Load when the current tires expire.

That's good to hear. My concern is that the Q rating is tested at a full 50 psi and if I run at a lower psi (say 40), the safe speed will drop too close to my speed envelope. I'd want to be able to run reliably at 85 all day.

What pressure do you run you your tires at?

I run 37 PSI and so far so good. I rarely run 90 MPH because if I did my MPG would be 7 considering my truck weighs 7K lbs.

I recently had a state trooper suggest a lower speed might be a better choice. But if I drive out west again I want to be able to hold my on with their higher limits.

Back on topic, are you seeing even tread wear at 37? That seems a very reasonable pressure and I can't imagine being much over 6200 lbs unless we carry the bikes.

Just had my tires rotated at 25K at Lexus and they said everything checks out including tread wear.
