Caliper clearance issue with 17s (1 Viewer)

Went under the gx with 18 inch wheels to check how much clearance there is between the caliper and the wheel. I can’t even fit 1/2 pen width between them. I don’t know how some of you are fitting 17s

I had 17s on the lc250 but they had 1 inch smaller brake calipers compared to gx and it was still a tight fit

That amount of clearance looks fine to me. Some trims come with 17s from the factory so we know they do fit, it will just largely depend on the design of the wheel.

no trim comes with 17s. there is like .3-.4 inches of clearance at the tightest point

I stand corrected about the 17s. Could have sworn I read that somewhere when I was planning my build.

Regardless, that amount of clearance is fine. There are people who actually remove material from their calipers just to install wheels, which is definitely not something I recommend, but you can get away with a very small amount of clearance.

Again this amount of clearance is on stock 18s . Not 17s

I am running 17 inch Methods and it is very close, but they fit. I actually had a rub issue with a wheel weight, but a little shift in position fixed the issue.

I have 17 inch Method wheels. A few hundred other people do too.

I had the same wheel weight issue with my 17" Icons, but they're fine now after some movement of weights.

I know methods “fit” but I can’t figure out exactly how. If the 18 inch wheel has .3-.4 inch’s of clearance to the calipers then the 17s should interfere solidly. The fact that it doesn’t would suggest that the inner wheel design of the methods are at a larger diameter compared to the oem. I guess there may not be a direct correlation between inner and outer diameter

This is my caliper clearance on my 17" TE37Xts..very tight but clears with proper placement of the wheel weights
