Thanks for all the terrific info on this forum. I just signed up on the list at my local Lexus dealer and am trying to decide on what color I want (or can get). I am leaning toward caviar but concerned about scratches with the dark color. Any input on my concern would be appreciated!

Incognito is a nice color and atomic silver

No off-road trails expected just mostly city/highway driving. I was more concerned about scratches from either hand washing or from the carwash.

You should have plenty of pictures available online. There is also a pretty good youtube video on colors by Toyota Jeff that shows all of the GX colors when they were released. I think they've done an awesome job with the colors on this vehicle and the overall design. I don't think they make an ugly GX.

Black cars are not for everyone. Arguably the best color clean but it does take a lot of work. Even with PPF and Ceramic coating, it can still be a bitch to keep looking good.

I've owned dark vehicles for the past 15 years and was excited to get something lighter this time around to hide the pollen and dirt better. If you're keeping your vehicle in a garage, it makes black a bit more palpable.

Detailing our cars is something that has become a hobby of mine and if your concern is around scratches, or even any water spot, then a Black car will be your worst nightmare. It will show scratches and any artifacts pretty much immediately.

There is a saying "You don't own a black car, a black car owns you".

My L+ is caviar and I love it. I've had white and black vehicles in the past and everything @serbiansizzle pointed out about black is spot on. But I just love how Lexus caviar looks (when clean) and for me it's worth the extra effort.

I had a jet black BMW and it was the most beautiful thing when it was clean. I used a California Car Duster on it every morning. Here in AZ it's easy to keep a car clean but it is dusty so a little California Car Duster action and some detail spray with a microfiber towel and you have the shine. Automatic car washes are a hard no because they will swirl the hell out of the paint. Auto car washes should always be a no, but especially on black cars.

Owning a black car is a rollercoaster ride. Not many colors where you can dry the vehicle incorrectly and leave visible swirl marks.

I am in NC (pollen instead of dust) and do keep my GX outside as my garage already has 2 other vehicles in it. It’s a lot of power washer + foam cannon to keep it as touchless as I can. No black for me anymore unless it’s a garage queen/weekend car.

I've had lots of black vehicles and even the drive through car wash will leave swirls in the paint. My Atomic Silver has been through the wash dozens of times and still has no visible swirls.

If you plan on taking your car to a car wash, avoid black paint. I think all of the colors look great on the GX (even white). Remember the more flexible you are, the sooner you’ll get your vehicle.
