Good morning, Good afternoon, Good evening!

My garage door wasn’t raised completely and caught the shark fin antenna on my 2025 GX550 Overtrail+ as I drove underneath. I have a garage-door technician coming to rewind the cables and correct the door issue.

The impact lifted the antenna cover approx. halfway off. I pushed it back into place, but it lifts slightly if I gently pull upward. I also found two tiny broken pieces from the retaining tabs, approx. 1 mm each. I’m concerned about moisture getting underneath the cover.

I’ve already ordered the black OEM antenna cover kit, part number 86077-48060-C1. From what I understand, replacing it may require lowering the rear headliner and unbolting the complete antenna assembly from inside the vehicle.

Has anyone actually replaced this cover or removed the antenna assembly on a GX550?

Any firsthand experience, photos, or service-manual instructions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Yes, you'll need to remove the headliner and associated parts. The sharkfin is bolted in with 1 bolt. You will need to replace the whole fin/antenna as you already alluded to since you broke some clips and mounting points.

A head's up from some recent experience. The full headliner is not trivial to remove and reinstall. I didn't do it but I did look at what's involved during a recent dashcam install.

There are a boatload of prerequisites to remove, 71 in total for a for a full and complete removal, step #72 is attached. You don't need a full removal, because you only need to drop the back end down to access the mount point. But still there are side pillar garnishes, REAR QUARTER TRIM PANEL ASSEMBLIES, etc., The trim overlaps, clips, guides and inter dependencies are going to add up.

If it were me, before I'd attempt to DIY this I'd get one or more estimates from body shops. They are dialed in and do work like this all day long, they could jump right in and do a clean reinstall with everything, the headliner, trim pieces etc. all lining up very cleanly, no dirty hand prints on the fabric, no compressed foam, etc., etc.

Given that these vehicles are worth $80k - 90k you want the interior panels to line up cleanly and exactly just like they did when you drove off the lot. This is my opinion, and I'm a sample of one.

P.S: Yes, you do need to be concerned about a path for water intrusion. The kit should come with some kind of soft grommet or rubber gasket. Pay attention to the fit.

Thank you both for the helpful information! I really appreciate you sharing your experience with the antenna-cover replacement. (y)

Just wanted to share an update on my experience. The installation took me about an hour to complete. I didn’t need to remove the entire headliner—just the three clips at the rear. I also pulled back the upper and lower side panels to create more room between the roof and the headliner.

Unfortunately, the tabs on the antenna cover broke off, so I disassembled it and replaced it with a new cover. The replacement cover came with new gaskets and a new self-tapping bolt.

Once everything was installed, I performed a water test to check for leaks. Everything went well, and no leaks were found.
