Who else has windshield cracked with no replacement options? Lexus isn’t even able to give me an ETA and won’t offer any offer any help or resolution. It’s been a nightmare.

Has anyone heard any updates or successfully received a windshield recently?

I caught a rock on the upper passenger side last week, and got a small chip w/ spidering. I read that this was common with vehicle windshields that have flatter more upright glass.
Opted for a repair, I’m sure I will collect a few more before I replace. But when I do I recommend OEM glass only.

Got a bulls eye hit on my windshield yesterday, luckily it is on the lower passenger side and hope it doesn't spread fast. Called my Lexus dealership and was told it is on backorder with no dates on availability.

Anyone with past experience can tell me at what point is a crack repairable vs having to replace the entire windscreen?

I've had a cracked windshield since January 17th with no time estimate for the arrival of the replacement.

Like others on this thread, I always choose OEM glass, but if I had cracks that obstructed my sight line, I would give Safelite product a go. I've used them here an there for BMW and GMC windshields that have HUD and cameras, and never had an issue.

I went to Safelite before I realized that my vehicle warranty covered the special windshield. Safelite orders from Lexus with a significant mark-up and they also showed that the glass was on backorder with no estimate of a return to stock date.

Interesting! Usually Safelite has their own branded windshields available as an option out there fairly quickly.

As of a day or so 900 windshields on back order none available in U.S.

I’d recommend windshield protective film. While not perfect, I think it will prevent cracks from minor rock chips. You’re looking at about $500-$600. I plan on doing this when I get my GX. Given that the windshield is close to $2000 and waiting for months.

I would like to address the real issue those of us who who previously owned FJ cruises or still own them know about replacement windshields the new GX‘s are a similar design. I find it inexcusable that there are no windshields to be had when they knew there was a previous issue. They should’ve had some back up and in their past history of not giving out information on the previous GX’s on the hold issue. I think there should be some type of explanation. Good luck to all and have a cracked windshield and hopefully get a new one soon.

Just an update, cracked windshield and reported to insurance on March 16, chose a local installer my dealer recommended and yesterday April 8 they have the new windshield from Lexus. In MA, insurance covers windshields and it would not affect your rates. No deductible on my windshield either. Since the 550 is so new, installer told us there isn’t any aftermarket and it will be OEM, otherwise insurance will give you option to use Safelite / 3rd party and you pay the difference for OEM from Lexus.

Who was the local installer ? Could you please share?

Hello, I noticed a crack in my windshield this morning. hs this happened to any owners in FL? Since the GX has been out a while does anyone know if they are more available from dealerships? I do not want to get an after market replacement if I can help it. I plan to contact my dealership today.

I'm in Florida and as of this week found my second crack in the windshield. The first was replaced with an other than OEM windshield. There no OEM available. In FL, state law requires the insurance company to replace broken windshields with 0 deductible charged to the customer. This is only if you have full coverage. A separate windshield coverage option is not permitted. You're covered if you have comprehensive coverage.

The insurance company (State Farm) paid about 2k for the new windshield, certified and installed. Now I have another crack in less than 3-months. Both hits occurred on the instate at +/- 70 mph.

I found the angle of the windshield tends to attract rocks and bugs. I am looking to put a clear film over my windshield. Any recommendations please?

Esoteric in Grover Beach was great for my PPF and WPF installation and reasonably priced compared to other installers in LA and Nor Cal.

Pulled small rock embedded in the WPF after SLO to LA drive yesterday. I highly suspect that the WPF is regularly preventing a chip or crack on hwy speed driving. My drive down this time - I saw more bug splatter than on ANY car I’ve ever owned at the same time of year.

Btw this phenomenon is NOT unique to the GX - friend who is manager at Mercedes dealer shared that window chips and cracks were MUCH more likely on the G-wagon (similar more vertical windshield orientation to the GX) as opposed to other vehicles.
My closing advice - every GX owner should highly consider this cheap insurance. I paid $350 - others I hear are much more. Again if you are willing to drive Kayden at Esoteric is a great option. Also if you happen to be in SLO area drop me a note and will try to meet for coffee and car chat..

Yeah, these vertical windshields are so damage/crack prone. I will look into WPF, thanks.

I am already on my second windshield. I had tint on the original windshield for heat rejection mostly. Now, knowing that cracks will probably continue to be an issue, do y'all re-tint after replacement?
