There are a lot of questions about eKDSS and it seems appropriate to make a thread about it where people can discuss, ask questions, etc.

As a starting point, I will list some questions I have had, and also some I have seen on other threads. Please anybody ask more questions. If there is an answer provided, please ensure it's correct. I have seen some incorrect info about eKDSS on this forum.
  1. Does putting an aftermarket suspension on the truck cause issues with eKDSS?
  2. Is there a drive mode whereby the sway bars are completely disconnected and not "active"? Maybe one of the low range modes? Or is it always active no matter the drive mode?
  3. Do the regular on-road drive modes change how eKDSS operates? For example, does it stiffen more in Sport or Sport+ mode? How much and how quickly is eKDSS working when you are driving on the road in normal situations?
  4. What fuse number and/or location controls the eKDSS?
  5. Does the car throw an error if you disconnect eKDSS?
  6. What components need to be serviced on the eKDSS system?
  7. Can the dealer reprogram eKDSS or change any parameters?

Here are some videos on the eKDSS system, which have been posted elsewhere too:

Sounds like E-KDSS can be retained even with a full aftermarket suspension swap. Meaning shocks, springs (coilovers front), upper control arms, differential drop, rear links.

I'm not sure which situations would cause you to lose E-KDSS. Is it a choice, where you choose to disable it, or are there situations where it is a necessity - as in, E-KDSS will no longer work with some particular suspension system components?

It does indeed work with aftermarket lift kits, including diff drop.

Some people with lift kits do remove KDSS from Toyotas, but I think it would be a loss to remove it from the GX because it is so adaptive/responsive. I think there could be some more involved aftermarket suspension components where eKDSS might not be compatible, but it seems to work fine with the typical 1"-3" lift kits out there...Icon, King, Dobinsons, etc.

In my case, I was hoping to try to temporarily disconnect the physical connections to see if those were causing my truck's ride quality issues. Unfortunately, we found out that it was more difficult than expected because the system was pushing the arm into the tie rod.

Bringing back this thread . Does the ekdss dynamically adjust on road ? If not what is the difference between this and swaybar disconnect except disconnecting the back as well

depends on the setting you have it on.

Depends on the setting you have it on. Eco, Sport, Sport+ will lock them in place. Normal & comfort the computer controls them. It's really not meant for cruising. It's more for when offroading

For you off-road savvy folk, are ya’ll 100% using MTS or just the normal drive modes when doing various off-roading actvities?

I never really touch the magic MTS settings, they seem more like a gimmick than a valuable tool. I know brainiac engineers worked tirelessly to optimize this and that but I only focus on high vs. low range and locking diffs when needed. Now that I think about it, I should play with the various MTS settings more. I’ll admit that I do enjoy the cameras that come on when in low range, the front & side cameras are very useful for tire placement.

I have played with the MTS and will play with it more. Thus far found no magic in MTS.

Crawl control and especially the down hill descent, on the other hand is wicked good. Provided there is traction to be had, of course.

My understanding is that the EKDSS is only a connect/disconnect control and the on road benefit comes its the beefier sway bar. The suspension adjustment all comes from the AVS. Let me know if my understanding is wrong.

This is how I understand it as well. You have a big sway bar to help control on-road body roll with this top-heavy SUV and then it automatically disconnects the sway bars for better off-road articulation.

If that’s the case then I don’t get the advantage over swaybar disconnect besides being able to disconnect front and rear instead of front .
One other interesting note is that Lace have a much “thinner” swaybar compared to gx which makes it roll in corners . I know bmws have active toolbars and I assumed less would provide the same functionality
