Heat stays hot-solved (1 Viewer)

2024 OT. I have all the extra's (concierge, s-flow, eco) turned off. However, even when the temp control is turned down to 60 the vents continue to blow very warm if not hot air. This happens in the auto or the manual mode, and even when the fan is turned "off" in the manual mode. Frustrating because especially in 30 or 40 degree outside weather, the cabin gets too warm for my comfort so I find myself having to open the windows a crack to keep from sweating. When I turn the temp control down below 60, it goes into "LO" mode and the AC kicks on which is kind of a waste when the outside temp is so cold. All of this is with the "sync" activated.

Oddly, I was on a long road trip this weekend and I was struggling with the temp. Then all of the sudden at 60/61/62 degree setting, the air coming out of the vents was actually comfortable and felt considerably cooler then the air at the vents compared to when I moved the dial incrementally to higher temps. And I actually set the temp to 64 or 65 to feel comfortable for the remainder of the several hour trip. I was fooled into thinking that the heat issue had solved itself. Not so. Next trip it was blowing uncomfortably warm at the lowest setting once again.

I don't know what the variable is for why the temp setting actually worked on that occasion and generally does not work most other times--duration of driving, outside temperature, air quality/humidity. Admittedly I was fooling around with the setting and maybe accidently stumbled upon the secret code to get it to work, but I can't reproduce it now.

Anyone else experience the problem of heat too hot even on low temp settings?

For me, whenever I feel like this is happening S-Flow has turned itself back on. I cannot figure out what triggers it to occasionally re-enable itself, but it definitely does. I open the climate panel to check and it's enabled every time I feel like I am getting assaulted by my heat.

I figured it out. On short trips (20 minutes or so), the heat blows hot regardless of temp setting. However, once I've been driving for awhile with the heat on (don't know exact time, maybe 20-30 minutes), things change such that the lower temps settings (61-63) actually feel coolish, comfortable lukewarm air blows at 64-65; and hot air at warmer settings. That explains why the discomfort on my daily work commute but no heat issues on longer road trips. Seems to do this regardless of other settings such as s-flow, auto, climate concierge, fan speed).

That's good to know

Yes, I have.

I struggled with this exact problem a lot more than I wanted to, and much more than expected. I'm on month four of owning a Lux, and just in the past two weeks I think I figured out. Following is what worked for me, it might not work for you, but worth mentioning.

For the three buttons "Auto", "A/C" and "Outside/recirc air mode" be aware there are three modes for each button, Auto, Forced On, Forced Off, as indicated by 1) no bar, 2) a blue bar or 3) a white bar above each button. Explained in post #5 in this thread on here and at 2:25:15 in this video. I read this in my first weeks of ownership and seemingly forgot about it, mistakenly thinking 'no bar' about the Auto button means auto mode is off, when in fact the exact opposite is true.

It wasn't until I reread and re-watched the video in the past week or two, that I got all three buttons into a base configuration, Auto, A/C and Recirculation forced off (white bar). I was then able to tweak and dial it in to my liking.

For me it's both surprising and aggravating this has been so counter intuitive. In other vehicles I've owned over the years (never a Lexus) it was very simple to figure out what combination of buttons made heat without engaging the compressor, and by extension how to get a low flow but steady temperature of warm, fresh air into the vehicle when the outside air temps are in the 20s to 40s (F).

I wish AC auto just lit up the button, like it does in just about every other car out there, including previous Lexuses. I imagine this car won't run the AC compressor when it's less than 30-40F outside anyway, so why even have a "forced on" mode?

I have noticed that fresh air mode considerably increases the perceived "wind noise" at highway speeds, so I wonder if they defaulted it to recirc to avoid people complaining about the car being too loud.

Thank you for posting this. I watched the video twice before buying my GX, and will probably watch it again to see what else I may have missed. The button configuration is a bit odd, and to your point, counter intuitive....
