Nitto Grappler G3 vs Toyo stock tires? (1 Viewer)

I have a 2024 Overtrail and my OEM tires are near the end of life, so I am contemplating which replacement tires I want to put on my truck.
  • I want to keep my OEM 18" wheels
  • Most of my driving is city and freeway driving, but I take 4 or 5 trips per year to Utah and I love driving off-road - this is important that I maintain the ability to drive through soft sand, and on dirt roads that are not well-maintained. I do not want to worry about flatting out when I hit small or medium-sized rocks. I do not drive on extremely challenging or highly technical off-road trails.
  • Cost is not a consideration.
  • I would like to size up slightly to 275 / 70R18
  • I have heard favorable comments on the Nitto Grappler G3 tire - it would be about .55" taller and .5" wider.
Has anyone made this change to Nitto Grappler G3 in 275 / 70R18? If so, what has your experience been? Does it perform well for offroad? Is it loud on the freeway, etc? Do you have any pictures that show it on your GX?

Thanks.

I had Nittos on a TRD PRO 4Runner a few years ago. One trip to Colorado and they were chopped up which caused annoying vibration on the highway. Discount Tire advised the only fix was to drive them until the gouges were gone.

I had this exact tire and size. The Terra Grappler G3. It’s perfect for what you want. I used it for about 5 months, including some light easy trails at Moab. I even towed with it. Perfectly quiet at freeway speeds, handled great. Had it on the OT wheels.

Go for it. 😀

What size did you use? Did you match original size, or go with the 275 - 70's?

What tires do you have now and why did you switch?
I wanted a more robust towing solution without using helper air bags. Went to a slightly larger 285/70R18, Toyo AT3, E rated.
This was done in conjunction with my MT64 suspension upgrade.
Maybe you have seen some of my discussion and reasons here:

I have the original OEM Toyo Open Country A/T, in size 265 70/R18. I would like something a little larger to fill out the wheel well if possible. I do not want to do any lift on my truck as I am concerned about making the ride quality any rougher than it currently is. I came from an Audi Q7 before, and I miss its plush ride quality when driving around town or on the freeway (but over the years I had 4 flats in hard-to-reach, remote areas where the 20" wheels / tires just could not handle the terrain).

Here was my For Sale ad, with a bit more explanation for selling the Nitto TG G3. But I can honestly say they have a very nice ride and are quiet.
