Rear Camera Relocation Issues

Has anyone in here successfully relocated the rear camera? I mounted mine on the rear swing out on my GX and, prior to running the wires everything worked great on the extension being used. Now that it's installed I'm getting an error on the dash and "visit dealer." Is there a recalibration that needs to be done? Any help is appreciated!

I gotta think there's a major recalibration to be done - that camera is used for a lot of things. And I'm sure there's a range of relocation outside of which recalibration is impossible.

My thoughts as well, I'm hoping we can at least get it "working" and get the error messages to go away and I'll call it a win! I don't imagine that the reverse grid or birds eye will be accurate at all just want to be able to see behind me in reverse.

Also the traffic and pedestrian detection stuff won't likely work, nor the 360 view (it'll be all skewed)

The sensors were put back in the bumper and are working great as far as the traffic/pedestrian detection as those work independently from the camera. But yes the 360 view/ reverse camera are the issues right now. I don't imagine the 360 view will ever work properly due to the difference in mounting location but I'm hoping we can get reverse going.

Currently trying to figure this out too. I installed a CBI Rear Bumper/Tire Swing and have the same issue. Main issue here are the connectors Toyota is using for these new cameras. There is a connection that can be possibly used behind the head liner in the top right corner where it meets the D pillar trim (if you're looking from behind the car) It appears to be a JAE MX4 connector however you can't source these to make a harness. I have sourced a few cables to reverse engineer a solution from ggoffroad.com, they make a harness with these connectors for the new gen Tundra/Tacoma. Just started messing with it today but haven't had any luck to get it to work. I also have 3D printed a simple mount with VHB to mount underneath the third brake light. Maybe with some help on here this can be figured out.

Awesome, appreciate the information that you've figured out so far! I'm going to dig in more tonight and see if I can't figure something out as well. I took it to the Lexus dealership today to see if maybe it was a simple reset/recalibration and they confirmed your thoughts by saying the connections that we used are the issue but they don't have the connectors that would be needed (real helpful right?!). I'll update once we find a solution! If you come up with anything let me know!

what extension did you use?

Did you/they grab a multimeter and verify that the pins are correct and that they all have continuity?

to add to this.. I dont think this has to do with anything programming related, the tundra/tacoma guys are doing this already without having to do any re-calibration and/or programing.

We used the stock connector at the camera and just spliced in additional wiring to cover the distance but did add a quick disconnect at the rear tire carrier to make it possible to remove the camera when removing the spare tire was necessary. Dealership is pointing to that quick disconnect as the culprit of the issue. I'm going to remove that and see if it fixes the issue. If it does I'll have to come up with a better way to mount this to allow me to actually use the spare hahaha

Pretty sure trying to splice into these cam cables is the problem. After a few hours of messing with it with no success I gave up and ended up just unwrapping and pulling the OEM cable out the factory harness in the door/hatch. Wrapped everything back up with harness tape and called it a day.
