Remove & Replace CoolBox for Storage? (1 Viewer)

Just took delivery of a brand new GX 550 Overtrail+; 100% out of the blue as someone backed out of an order & I was first to the dealership. SIX other potential buyers arrived after I'd started the paperwork, so I imagine resale on these must be insane!. My only "hate" so far:

COOLBOX: there's so little storage throughout the vehicle, so I really need the storage instead of the cool. Has anyone removed the coolbox and replaced it with the standard console? My dealer quoted me $1,100 for the parts alone to switch this -- but they've never done a replacement. I want to know more before proceeding.

Appreciate any input folks can offer on this!

With you on the coolbox.

The problem is it has it is tied to the GX's main AC cooling system. It's a major project. I wanted to replace it with a Console Vault which I had in my old ford SUV.

Thanks for that! And I assumed it would be easier since it doesn't have a refrigeration system, like a Dometic fridge. Oh well...

Yeah it's unfortunate Lexus basically forces everyone to buy it(same with the LC 250). As mentioned it's not just a straight console swap, so $1,100 sounds probably about right for combination of new parts and labor from the dealer. FYI there are various organizers out there that at least make the cool box more functional. I have the one below and like it better than the other options I've seen. Still allows you to cool a can of something while splitting up the rest of the space for other items.

Thanks for that; I've seen those and that space is just SO small that it's nearly useless for my needs -- and there are so few places to store things in this vehicle. I would have preferred NO coolbox and NO sunroof -- but I've only seen one Overtrail with that combination.
