Is it ok to change 15k maintenance?
When i did 10k complimentary today i was told that it will cost around 350$ and they even not changing oil. WTF.
Why should i need to pay for it? It is a Lexus GX and I'm expecting this car last for a good period of time. They mentioned something about cabin filter replacement. But i would rather do it myself with youtube.
I don't think it worth 350$ for this
  • Rotate tires and adjust tire pressures as required
  • Replace smart key battery*
  • Clean air conditioner filter
  • Reset maintenance reminder light
  • Road-test vehicle
  • Check installation of driver's floor mat*
  • Inspect and adjust all fluid levels
  • Inspect axle shaft boots
  • Inspect ball joints and dust covers
  • Inspect body
  • Inspect brake lines and hoses
  • Inspect engine coolant
  • Inspect exhaust pipes and mounting
  • Inspect rack and pinion steering assembly
  • Inspect steering linkage and boots
  • Visually inspect brake pads, calipers and rotor

The tire rotations and the checklist of items to inspect are the key points, IMO.

When you change the cabin filter are you also going to inspect the steering linkage and boots, ball joints and dust covers, brake pads, calipers and rotors, axle shaft boots ...?

If you are expecting your car to "last for a good period of time," then, IMO, there are two reasons not to deviate from the maintenance specifications, 1) You're giving an opening for Lexus to dispute the warranty should you have any problems down the road, and 2) Maintenance specs are what they are for a reason, and you're implying you know better than all the cumulative design and engineering and experience behind the specs. How can that be? In heavy industry you make equipment, mobile or otherwise, last a good long time by following the specs for maintenance and inspection, no shortcuts.

Yeah, make sense, thank you I just completed today my 10k service, so i will think about 15k, if needs or not.
To be honest I'm not really sure if they are checking everything.
I used to have a Tahoe and after 80k miles cam shaft inside engine broke or something, basically they said you need new engine (17k). Did some research and possible reason is not changing oil on time, however i was changing oil every 5-6k at that dealership. :cautious:
Now im thinking to change oil myself. Sounds like it is not difficult.
