I've always felt that the steering wheel was a little too skinny. Anyone brave enough to do it first?

I feel the same way, and the wheel is very slick. I was going to put on a suede or Alcantara cover but haven't found one i like yet.

The Land Cruiser steering wheel is not the same as the GX550. Love mine just as it is.
They have a GX550 specific cover

Similar issue with my Lux +. Have never had a steering wheel as slippery as this to the point that it is actually dangerous when trying to make a turn because you can’t grip it. I can’t believe it is actual leather and just feels cheap. I can’t believe someone in design signed off on it.

still not sure how the cover will fit and be secured over the "wings" going towards the center of the wheel over the controls. Seems like that section might just be tucked and taped which is not something that I can live with.

What is your preferred way of securing the "wing" cover ends?

The cover from stickerfab looks like it's tucked under the plastic trim. Best case the ends are held with adhesive but that would require taking apart the wheel.

Watched the video at their website; the install has unprofessional looking results. The stitching looks tedious and the final step leaves unsightly thread at the lower part of the steering wheel. Not for me.

All the reasons above are why I haven't bought it even though it's only $35 (it can probably be found on Alibaba for under $10). The wheel would look messy and possibly like it was coming apart.

OMG...you are my hero. How did you pop up the silver trim? Does it pry out pretty easily? Does heat transfer through the new steering wheel cover?

The trim pops right out. The wheel cover kit includes a couple plastic trim tools. I also tested the wheel heater and it works fine!

The army green thread is ready for the next person that wants it! PM me if you want it.

Fun tid bit, the NX shares the exact same steering wheel as the GX. I wish they had put a more robust steering wheel on the GX.

I got this cheapo from amazon: Amazon.com
It works well for my hands. Does not slip.
I am not sure if it works well with heated steering wheel. I am in Southern California and never needed the heat.

How did it turn out?

I bought a Napa Leather cover from Carsilks, it took a month to get because it was custom made for the GX in China, got it today, fits and looks great!
Which GX trim do you have? If Overtrail..did Carsilk offer up a custom Black with Green color? Did you get the Carbon Fiber or Breathable Leather version?
TIA,
DJ.
