Over the past few months, I completed a series of what I consider Phase 1 mods to my 2025 OT+ and was able to put them to the test on a week long camping expedition up into the Redwoods near La Honda CA. (I volunteered as one of 4 chaperones for 34 middle schoolers as justification
). The following mods were put to use:
1) Sherpa Atlas Roof Rack with a Baha S8 light bar, including 2 side panels for Rotopax and recovery gear.
2) 2 ROAM 95L Cases and Rugged Roof Rack Mounts for camping gear and supplies
3) Starlink Mini Roof Mount from STS Systems (Australia)
4) Starlink Mini/Peakdo Power system
5) HeleBox sleeping system so I could sleep in the rig (only got to use this one night since I needed to stay in the cabins with the rowdy kids)
6) ICECO JP Pro 40 portable refrigerator with magnetic battery
7) Anker S2000 battery
8) Misc other supplies and recovery gear
All in all it was a great success. There was no issue with the roof rack or the ROAM Cases were solidly locked down/no appreciable wind noise (but hard to tell given the Spotify Music that was playing). The Helebox platform/bed worked great. (I purchased magnetic side and rear window covers to keep the vehicle dark). The Anker S2000 battery provided more than enough power for the ICECO as well as a coffee machine that I brought along.
The Starlink requires clear sky so I needed to remove it from the rig (It was parked most of the time under a think tree canopy) and place it by a bonfire pit (clear view of sky) to utilize it.... got 130M Downstram and approximately 30 - 40M Upstream which was more than enough.
The refrigerator was a big hit with the campers ---- lots of snacks and food they weren't supposed to bring.
Did some light forest trail driving.
The only thing I realized would have been helpful was an electronic rear view mirror since my rear view was blocked with all the camping stuff the kids brought (I had 4 of them in the car) ... I saw someone else's post on that subject.
I was having so much fun, I forgot to take pictures of the rig while there. None the less, here are some photos I took before we took off.
