Been waiting on this weekend to roll around for quite a while. I've known this group of guys for 43 years and we get together in the woods twice a year. Many have built cabins and the rest of us mooch off couches and tents. This area is just off TN 165, known as the Cherohala Skyway. Not far is the famous Tail of the Dragon. It's really fun to drive too.
I took off after breakfast and drove 4 hours and played around where it counted .. off pavement. Others sped off in their Side by sides. I used the OnX Offroad app for dirt roads/topo map of the area. The roads were easy with lots of twists, turns, ups and down.
The best part was the 6 mile climb to Farr Gap. Enough ruts to enjoy the suspension articulation. The road turned more like trail as soil was washed off leaving rocky paths up. Never really needed crawl control. 4-Lo with center locked sufficed and was excellent on the decent controlling the speed nicely. The Toyo's gripped nicely on all surfaces.
Saturday night, we had planned a cowboy cookout and everybody brought a side dish. Food, fire, music and many cold beverages were had by all.
