Hey all,

Looking to install a dash-cam that has really good quality, can self-clean the memory and it does not show the cables (discrete installation)

Any recommendations on brands ?

I have the Black Vue DR970X-1CH, had a local shop install on the passenger side of the mirror. I don't need the parking mode and it was a 30 minute job.

I watched a lot of YT reviews on this. Viofo came up a lot. Reviewers demoed zooming in on a license plate to get a clear image, at night, on an coming vehicle.

The model I got can self clean (reformat) the memory card at 30 and 60 day intervals.

I found numerous videos on how to do a nice install. The camera comes with several fuse adapters that make it very easy to wire up for parking mode. Also, look for the videos of people using a six-foot long tie wrap to pull a cable above a headliner to wire the rear camera, that was the cleanest install I saw.

The camera included one small interior trim tool, I didn't realize that was included so in the same amazon order I got one of these trim tool kits. The install videos used a few of these small mounting clips, I found them very helpful for hiding a cable just underneath the edge of a headliner where friction alone doesn't hold the cable in place. Another $8 to amazon. Viofo has nice mounting options, like a transarent static windshield film. And a quick disconnect of the camera from the windshield base.

For the record this install was not in a GX.

I’ve had the BlackVue DR900x and now running the VIOFO A229 Pro in the GX. both 2 channel. I recommend not wasting money on the BlackVue. The VIOFO is superior in almost every way.

Agree. I also got the A229 Pro in two channel.

A few tips: Do order one of the Viofo industrial grade (because continuous high speed writing to the card) micro SD cards. Also get the optional Bluetooth remote control button. I forget if I needed the $25 hardwire kit, but do check closely if it's included. Amazon had lower prices than direct ordering from Viofo's website.
