Brakes stopped working on a 2024 GX OT+, Anyone else?

Today our GX 550 OT+ brakes felt weird as we left the house. Had to apply much more pressure to get the brake to engage. After about a 10 mile commute it became much worse barely stopping the vehicle. A warning came up stating "Power Brake Low, Safely stop the vehicle and call dealer", paired with a constant chime that wouldn't shut off. A brake light indicator also came up in the cluster. Luckily, I was able to get right into the dealer and they are currently looking at it. This vehicle just has a 15K scheduled maintenance/inspection last week. All fluids topped, and brakes pads had plenty of pad left. Anyone else experience this issue yet? Much appreciated.

Was it before or after the Squeaking Brake fix?

Hey DJ, we only had the squeaking brakes after the vehicle sat for a few days outside with moisture.The brakes were not squeaking when this occurred.

Sorry to hear. Just a reminder that in a true emergency, if you pull and hold the parking brake button up for a few seconds it will engage.

The dealer has fixed the brake issue under warranty. They said it was a faulty bolt and rubber line that caused brake fluid to leak. Brakes are working like normal again.

If I were you, I would be highly suspicious of the recent 15K mile service performed at your dealer. Particularly interesting is the way they spun the story, e.g. bolt /rubber line. During the so-called inspection the tech most likely introduced FOD near the brake lines or damaged the line with his light or tools. I would have requested pictures of the damages and would bet that it was induced by incompetent technicians. A visual inspection would have been sufficient and topping off brake fluid, if needed. My dealer takes videos of anything out of the ordinary and sends them to me for review. What you experienced is entirely unacceptable.

You are being too trusting with your dealer. There are many other dealers in the CA area; I would be taking my GX elsewhere the next time.

We get videos of every single service from the technician in real time like most Lexus dealers but thank you for the tip on what may have possibly happened with technician.

Did the brakes feel stiff and hard to push when you lost braking power? Or did the brakes feel soft and squishy?

I ask as a way to verify mm9351's note about dealer damage. If the brakes felt stiff, then brake fluid could not be cause of this issue; this would be a vacuum pump or brake booster issue. If the brakes felt soft, then the dealer might be telling the truth about a bolt wearing through the brake line, though the question still stands about how a bolt & a rubber brake line came into contact with each other enough to wear a hole within 15k miles.

Not to thread jack, but I am dealing with a stiff brake pedal, mainly when I first get into the car in the morning. Dealer didn’t seem too concerned but it has be the vacuum pump or brake booster malfunctioning. 15k service coming up, going to get it addressed then.

I would guess this is simply a vacuum leak somewhere between the vacuum pump and the brake booster. Could have been an assembly error (e.g. someone inserted a hose slightly askew and tore / rolled the o ring) or a rare, unfortunate early failure of the vacuum reserve check valve. Luckily, those are the cheap, relatively safe problems to have.

A vacuum pump failure would result in a stiff pedal & low braking power all the time, even when driving, and is usually accompanied by an audible knocking / ticking noise that sounds like failing valve lifters. A failing brake booster would likely either result in a stiff brake pedal as well or you would see the brake fluid reservoir losing fluid over time.
