Depending on what you plan on doing with the truck. These are high precision turbo engines therefore, proper filtration (even the micro particles) is absolutely key to reliability. Unless you are planning to dive into deep water, I would stick with OEM filters.Hello all,
Not sure which route to take since I’ve been reading mix reviews on both. Should I go drop in filters or the afe intakes.
Not sure what deep water would have to do with anything but both these options would allow more air flow to the engine in turn would be better for the engine.Depending on what you plan on doing with the truck. I should have elaborated about options of aftermarket filters such as in the case of snorkels... More air does not mean better for the engine! The current airflow is regulated based on many other parameter of the engine output. These GXs have 2 air filters on each bank, it doesn't need more air unless you are looking to improve other performance characteristics... More air flow in many cases means less filtering capabilities and these are the things that destroy turbos (Sand especially). Not sure what deep water would have to do with anything but both these options would allow more air flow to the engine in turn would be better for the engine.
Gotcha thanks! I just got the itch to mod the engine.I should have elaborated about options of aftermarket filters such as in the case of snorkels... More air does not mean better for the engine! Of course you do as you wish, I just spoke with Toyota techs regarding these engines and there is common consensus that helping them is key to longer term reliability...
I get you bro, I've done this on every single other car in the past. But those were less complicated 4 cylinder engines in my case lol (not an >80K SUV). If you're not in a dusty environment, the AfE intakes might be nice. They will certainly sound much better but hope they use good quality air filters. For ~$500-600 it isn't bad at all but like I said, hope the filaments are good...Gotcha thanks! I just got the itch to mod the engine.
