I am shocked how much gas still seems to be left in the tank once it reads Zero on the Miles to Empty on the instrument display.

Is anyone else noticing this? This is a problem with such a small tank already and bad MPG. I can see a couple gallons for reserve, but it seems like maybe 5 gallons left? This is a bummer especially since it can't even muster 300 miles on a full tank...

I believe the manual states,

Indicates that remaining fuel is approximately 3.2 gal. (12.0 L, 2.6 Imp.

gal.) or less

 Refuel the vehicle.

I suspect a possible reason is the fuel pump in tank is cooled by the gas, desirable not to let the level get to low ?

Correct, there is a good 3 gallons left in the tank, even when you run 'er down to zero miles remaining on the dash indicator. You have to get used to ignoring the panic that typically sets in when you are getting down to low numbers of miles remaining. Run it all the way down to zero or more and you're fine (of course as long as you are in town and not too far from a gas station). I ran mine about 10 miles past zero remaining this morning and refueled and only got 18.22 gallons in the tank, including a nearly-half-gallon second pull on the dispenser after it clicked off.

500 miles / tank?

Yes sir. Everyone thinks I am lying... but I assure you I am not. Right now I am getting (according to the meter) 23MPG and I overfill the tank and use about 2 gallons of the reserve. When I full up my tank I think the distance to empty meter is up to 430 or 440 miles.

I always fill-up when the fuel level gets to 1/4 tank or just below. I never rely on the mile indicator for any calculations.
On a forum for my last vehicle people would report miles/gal or miles/tank as much as =/- 25% difference.

I don't think you're lying. I'm just jealous.

I appreciate that... when people accuse me of it I am always like... what am I gaining here by doing that?

Right now, today I am tracking for 470 miles (gallons to empty meter + miles driven) but what people need to realize is... I have a very light foot, a very flat commute, and I literally drive 65 in a 65. Car is always in ECO mode with the ECO indicator on, on top of that. I run it 2 gallons past the 0 miles left and overfill the tank.

As we speak I’m tracking 450 + 48 so 498 in total if I use 2 of the 4 gallons in reserve.
