Has anyone fit a 35" spare tire under the GX550? (1 Viewer)

If I read correctly, the manufacturer quotes the size of the tire you mounted at 33.5 inches. The same manufacturer quotes the size of an AT 275/65/R20 at 34.1 inches. Not an insignificant difference.

I might be confused or looked up wrong data. But that’s what I recall.
Correction: 33.9 vs 34.1

Yes a .2 inch difference. My previous statement still stands. It will fit if you angle it in more but it will droop down more since it won’t fit properly in the 2 brackets near the axle.

See how in this photo that the tire is only contacting the bottom 1” of the bracket? A larger diameter tire will have to slide down further since you are being limited at the bumper side

But to stay on topic. After fitting the 34” (33.9”) in there there’s no way a 35” will fit without major modification

just asking what's the suggestion when using a different size spare-
what do you do when you need to use the spare and mount the non-spare in the spare location?
you going to put it in the trunk? you hoping it's deflated enough that it'll squeeze in?
unless someone manages to squeeze a (deflated?) 35" in the spare location, while on the trail, without help from a friend, I think we'd only be fooling ourselves thinking a smaller spare is a solution.
think I'll do 34" until such a time I put a proper tire carrier on the gx. obviously at that point the difference between a 34" and a 35" won't be worth the hassle so it'll have to be portals and 38s.... someday...

If it doesn't fit in the cargo area, then you throw the wheel with the dead tire on the roof and strap it down

While not exactly 100 lbs it would be tough to get my 74-lb 35" spare tire on the roof rack. I have a hard enough time pouring gas from 5 gal jerry can much less lifting a spare tire onto the roof.

how do you get a 74lb 35"? the wheel is usually 29-36lbs and the lightest 35" tires are >50 lbs, some going >70 for just the tire.

I have the Volk ZE40X at 19 lbs and the Toyo 35/10.5R17 at 55 lbs so total is 74 lbs. Lightest tire/wheel package I can find.
